End of Aussie Era

The problem is we need to start our new era, but we still have the older players such as Ponting, Hussey and Haddin around who are just not performing at test level. Add Johnson to that list as well, who has been poor for quite some time, far too inconsistent to be considered a regular. Then we drop our one senior player who actually had been performing in Katich. I know it was because of Clarke, but stilll.. They should have sorted out their differences, they don't need to be best friends. As a captain, it's dissapointing to think that he can not be professional enough to accept that he will not be best friends with every teammate. We should be looking at integrating the likes of T Paine, Khawaja and Cummins into the side. I would rather see them struggle but gain experience, as oppose to seeing our senior members constantly struggle.
I can't agree more. But i would still play hussey as he is a team man and he is not really that bad.....ponting should retire before he hear it from the board and haddin is an absolute joke.....I wouldn't bring cummins that quick as he might loose his confidence playing at international level......let him get some experience at domestic level and figure out what actually works for him......earlier we have seen some talented players brought in too early and completely lost them....

Yeah maybe I was a little harsh on Hussey. He still has a few more chances left in him, but for me not too many. He needs to start scoring. You are probably right about Cummins as well, but I'm just sick of seeing Johnson get smashed around the park and then produce the odd good game with that being enough to keep his spot.

But wasn't Hussey in top-form in SL and in the Ashes?

Yeah, but that was after like a year or more without scoring. He needs to keep going, we need our senior players to step up to the plate. That's what I mean, I don't think we should allow him to get comfortable just because he had a good series, he needs to know that he needs to keep performing otherwise he will be under pressure. That's the way it used to work when we were the dominant force, no one was safe unless they were performing. That's not the case anymore, I don't think anyone really knows what is going on.

However, I also feel that when a team is winning, then some of the bad performances ten to go unnoticed at times. I am not saying that Aussies had non-performers in their teams, but generally the axe falls faster on a player, when the team is not doing well.
