Second of all, it's nothing to do with east vs west. It's more to do with the fact that the BBC, Times, Guardian etc are some of the most powerful media sources/newspapers in the world. Nobody will see something that is reported in the India times. The whole world will take notice of a story from the BBC or The Times.

Not only was the person gang raped, she was beaten brutally with an iron rod inserted inside her body and intestines ripped followed by throwing her out of the bus on the road naked. This ordeal was then followed by the Delhi cops' routine of whose "area" did the incident fall under for a full hour or so before the victim was transported to a hospital. I am sorry but any which way you look, this incident comes out looking much worse and we do indeed deserve a lot of flak for our track record of providing adequate security to females in the country, especially northern part of the country (Delhi, UP, Haryana, Punjab belt).

My question is, why is India, and its entire society and values being put on trial for every rape crime that is committed here. This is not the case with how crimes that happen in the west are portrayed. Western media seem to a have curious disconnect when it comes to crimes in their countries. It is just the fault of the criminal alone and no one else's. The entire western society and its value system is not questioned for every rape that is reported here(which is supposedly higher if you go by the reported numbers). It is similar to how muslims are portrayed in media.

Well, gun violence in the US is treated similarly where the gun culture of the society is blamed for a lot of crimes, specially the ones which involve some lone wolf going on a random shooting spree.
