ANyone who says that Tendulkar has never charged at opposition knows jacksh*t about cricket or probably just hasn't watched Tendulkar play at his peak. What trash. Care to give me a few examples of Tendulkar playing out maidens against McGrath ? Dravid was the one who did that. Tendulkar attacked in every single innings he played on that tour, but you obviously didn't watch a ball of that series
Rubbish. Havent you heard of the 6 consecutive maidens Tendulkar played Down Under ? Havent you heard of him confessing to Michael Vaughan (who rang up Tendu before his first tour down under) that he (SRT) had paid far more respect to McGrath than he deserved ? Do your research!

Irrelevant. 1) We are talking ODIs not tests 2) We are talking mental approach in overcoming BIG opponents in MUST win games. How is Yuvraj's test average relevant to this discussion ?

RESEARCH, LMFAO. Give me a few examples, son. You obviously CAN'T. I watched that series, unlike you. I have my memories to go by. I recall Tendulkar coming out blazing in the first innings in the 3rd test at Sydney, and a stunning hundred in the 2nd test at Melbourne - on both occasions, he came out hard at McGrath and even harder at Warne. I find it strange how someone who hasn't watched a ball of cricket before 2004 can make such sweeping statements.

This is madness. Aggression in a chaddi version of the game is being talked up above the mental toughness and resilience required to play a 5-day Test. Yuvraj will have to be born again to match the toughness of a Sachin or a Dravid. It's all very well beating the Aussies in a 20 over shebang, but don't even dare to think that this can translate directly to the Test arena. I have seen Yuvraj freeze against the likes of Heath Streak. Let's not even go there. Sreesanth, I have high hopes for. I genuinely feel he'll be India's greatest ever fast bowler. Not because of his aggression, but because of his skill, courage and self belief. Yuvraj has these qualities too, but simply hasn't shown that same self assurance in Tests to hold out the promise of greatness.

I agree with your last sentence. yuvraj/zaheer have given you more "sights" in aggression. But that doesnt mean its the best strategy. I hope u remember what happenned in WC 2003. That was zaheer there too. Yes, it looks fun, all masala entertainment, but is that necessarily the best way to go about it? I dont think so. Check this out.. this is an interview of shane warne, where he talks about sledging....
I would advise you to see the whole interview, (this is part 4), but atleast see part 4, where he concentrates on sledging. More importantly, see from 2:36/9:48 onwards.....
I never said it should be the only strategy, did I now? Look at the examples I have given up above - RP Singh(against Pollock), Sreesanth(against Hayden), Yuvraj(against Freddie) & Zaheer(against KP). All these incidents have come against the BEST players in the world and not some nambie pambies. In all the incidents Indian youngsters have stood up, and more importantly in all the incidents India have WON. Why the hell is it not better strategy then? Somehow you, and few others, are thinking I am only talking of naked aggression here I am not. One thing you can be sure of - Freddie wont challenge Yuvraj again..and as an Indian fan I love that. xxx PS: will check the interview Holy

Are you serious? Tests are the biggest test of mental strength according to all great cricketers.

Disagreed. As a cricket fan who has watched cricket for atleast 2 decades I would say the current lot has shown lot more aggression that what our famed cricketers have. If this has come in shorter version of the game it is not their fault considering the geriatric are holding on to their positions. Go ahead and tell me of another team in last 20 years that have shown aggression in the face of opposition and won the games. If not then lets agree this is unprecedented. xxx

Here is your aggression : http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63920.html http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63921.html Mentally tough Yuvraj's highest score against the Aussies is 27!!!:cantstop::cantstop: The day Yuvraj can help us win a test series against a team coming off 16 straight wins we can talk about aggression.

Long story short - You are not capable of defending your assertions about Dravid-Slater incident and have to raise smokescreen. And you had the galls to comment on how shallow my credentials are. I think I have proved my point here. Peace. xxxx

At last a couple of more players out of the Book of Dada: Sree and Dhoni! [we already had Yuvi, Bhajji, Sehwag and the rest of the Dada Brigade]
This idiot here, trying to sneak in politician credits. :mama:

I reserve my judgment. Let's see if he has the guts to go after Afridi or YK. We all know what happened the last time he tried this stuff with big Inzi. You be the judge. Cq8-ZkfcJiM
That happens to one occassion where we were defending a very small target, and with pakistan well set, enducing errors was our best chance. he bowled well, followed it up words and turn about before inzi had an opportunity to say what he wanted to... hence, causing built up aggression and anger which would lead to thoughtless decision making. this lad has my vote. he has the attitude and his gesture when he beat the pitch after dismissing haydunce said it all... "this is my ground, this is my pitch, i fracking rule!" and here is another, yes he does get carried away, often bowling too much and trying too hard. but is that not better than just going through the motions not trying anything and hoping for the opposition to err? kinda like how zaheer 1.0, rps 1.0 and pathan 1.0 were bowling in the karachi test's second innings (i say 1.0 since these three players have completely reinvented themselves since).

One or two examples of aggression wont change an impression that these guys have created by a career spanning close to a decade. Its the way the big three played their cricket in general.
Bumper, I agree. For decade+ these guys have been successful. We need to wait and watch atleast 2-3 years to see if yengster turks can show consistency and sustaining power / success.

So you had no response to the two scorecards of aggression I put up there? And claim yourself a winner? What do you want to know about the Dravid-Slater incident? Since both us will claim the other side came out on top, what is the point of arguing over it? Let's talk of bottom lines here. Dravid scored one of the greatest innings of all times in the next test and a superb innings a test later to wrap up a test series win against a side having won 16 tests on a trot. That for me is aggression and success not mouthing off obscenities. Dravid, on a minefield in WI, carried the side to a series win. That was aggression and success not Yuvraj struggling to hold his bat against Jerome Taylor. By the way, congrats on your slef proclaimed victory!!

Agression is best demonstrated with the bat and the ball. Let the bat or ball do the talking. You can add the other behavior as an extra, but the bat or ball must do the talking to make it REAL.

Duh! What makes you think that what you cannot recall never happened ? I wouldnt even trust your account of what you watched. Didnt you post a bogus video claiming Murali bowled a doosra in 1998 or 99 when none existed ? :haha: Did you know about the 13 maidens McGrath sent down at Adelaide. The only way i can prove what i said, is by pointing you to a ball by ball commentary thread which cricinfo does not have provide access to (if someone finds a link pls share it with me) or a pointer to the article which discusses Vaughan, Tendulkar conversation. I clearly recall reading on rediff about the maidens Tendulkar played out against McGrath. His game plan was to not be a victim of his (well outside the) off stump line & make McGrath bowl to him.

You were in your nappies when i started watching cricket!

Before you keep talking about all your "research" try to get yourself some tapes of Tendulkar's hundred and his innings at Sydney. Tendulkar was the only Indian batsman on that tour who showed some balls. Why are you commenting on an incident which you have never ever seen ?

What's the big deal about aggression anyway? I reckon we have fallen for the hype generated by our neighbours about meat, aggression, Pathanisms, Punjabisms, etc. This is rubbish, IMO. The greatest fast bowlers and batsmen never said much- just let their bat or ball do the talking- Richards, Lara, Tendulkar, Marshall, Ambrose, Imran come to the mind. Imran, I remember, gently raised his arms and walked down the pitch after taking a wicket. Never said a word. Aggression you have to feel inside. You don't have to make a show of it. I think Sachin is one of the most aggressive batsman I've ever seen. At his pomp, the bowler didn't know where to pitch to him. Some of you guys are falling for the testosterone fuelled celebrations that our Hollywood style cricketers have put up recently. Don't forget that they are playing to an audience of half a billion TV viewers back home. There's a lot of sponsorship money at stake, and grandstanding of this sort catches the eye of advertisers.
