I love her modesty (note by Prem Panicker at http://www.prempanicker.com/index.php?/site/i_love_her_modesty/) Clueless2.jpg Explain this to me: when an actress strips for a movie, or for the cover of a magazine, or appears semi-nude in the ad for some product that has little if anything to do with feminine pulchritude, feminists of all stripes complain of exploitation, but when she strips to propagate vegetarianism under the PETA umbrella, it is all in a good cause. (And to underline the point, check out the options listed under her video on this page—‘Post this sexy ad on your blog, it says here). Video: http://www.peta.org/feat/alicia_psa/index.asp Huh? What does bare skin have to do with vegetarianism anyway? Ah the heck with such questions; here, watch this Alicia Silverstone ad for PETA: And now for the piece de resistance: some coy writer on the DNA staff went to work on this item; (s)he watched the video and then described what (s)he saw, thus [Page 17 of the e-paper, if you want to go to the trouble of registering]:

The ad begins with Silverstone sensually pulling herself out of a swimming pool, carefully hiding her modesty with her arms.

If there is one thing I love about the Clueless star, it is her modesty. Posted by Prem on 09/21 at 07:20 PM Misc • (3) Comments • (0) TrackbacksPermalink

A decently clad Alicia Silverstone saying those exact lines wouldnt have got 10% of the attention this ad has got. Doesnt Prem Panicker know that ? Very surprising. Such ads just go onto emphasize the role of women in modern society as a sex symbol more than anything else. And half the blame for such an image being projected should fall on women themselves.

One more from Prem Panicker: http://www.prempanicker.com/index.php?/site/ovids_kama_sutra/ Posted by Prem on 09/27 at 02:17 PM

If some dust should settle

In your girl’s lap, flick it away

With your fingers; and if there’s no dust, Still flick away - nothing.

Charlotte Higgins mines Ovid’s Ars Amatoria, for all you need to know about the art of seduction. Watch this space for updates early next week, after I try flicking fingers across sundry laps this weekend.
