There was some report I read yesterday which said he is going to contest for a Lok Sabha seat from UP to revive the party - either from Lucknow, Allahabad, or Varanasi. Look, Modi will never become PM of India.. The best he can do is to become a cabinet minister if at all NDA manages to win... I am not sure if he will be able to work under someone like Sushma Swaraj or Arun Jaitley given his ego, who are likely to be the compromise candidates.

Lko has a sizeable Muslim population so given the high stakes, I don't think Modi will take the risk. Murli Manohar Joshi is the current MP from Varanasi and he has already said that he will contest from there once again and Joshi being a very senior leader, Modi won't take his seat now that Joshi has openly said that he will contest from there. If a situation arises where a consensus candidate has to be named by NDA's allies then IMO Advani is the front runner, although Jaitely and Swaraj also have good chances.

[/quote'] Yeah, I agree. I was just quoting the article I had read, though the article did say that it's most likely going to be Varanasi, and that Joshi will be given some other constituency. Can't remember which site I read it on, but a lot of it sounded like speculation. I am not sure if Advani will accept the position, given his age. Might decide on going the remote control way, since both Swaraj and Jaitley are his proteges.

Actually till now old age has not been a problem for Advani as he is still among the fittest politicians around and its been a dream for him to be the PM so I am certain that he will accept the position. If he's not in a position to be PM then he'll push for Swaraj (his relations with Jaitley have gone downhill in the last 1-2 years).

We might see a crore of crore worth of corruptions. It will be like, they can do anything, no one can question them. Media will bark for few days and people will forget.

The BJP has proven pathetically incapable to exploit any of the anti UPA sentiments to its benefit. Instead of taking the congress head on on corruption, it seemed unable to even reign in Yedurappa. It proved incompetent to lead the country to rally against such blatant corruption inspite of being the main opposition party, it did nothing for the lokpal bill, etc. It can't even project its main leader clearly. Get ready to have the congress **** over all of us for another term, while praising the 'secular' mandate.

I believe these 2 cannot position BJP in leading role during election, so they cannot be conensus candidate later.

Manmohan Singh can't even win a Lok Sabha seat, but has been a consensus candidate for 10 years.

Feel free to choose some other example if you don't like mine. Many would say even Vajpayee was a consensus candidate, because BJP's dramatic rise in '89 and '91 was due to Advani and not him.

Deve Gowda or Gujral are better examples.
