bulbul Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 NEW DELHI: The UPA government on Monday admitted before the Supreme Court that the NDA regime, in five years, constructed nearly half the total length of national highways laid during the last 32 years. In an interesting affidavit filed before the apex court, the Centre said the length of national highways in the country was 29,023 km in 1980, which expanded to 76,818 km by the end of 2012. This means 47,795 km of national highways was added by successive governments in 32 years However, the affidavit revealed that during 1997-2002 (ninth five-year plan), when the NDA was in power, 23,814 km of national highways was added to the existing NH network, or nearly 50% of the total length of national highways constructed in three decades. This remains the largest construction of national highways during any five-year period since independence In fact, during the nearly 10-year rule of the UPA government, the total length of national highways laid was much less - nearly 16,000 km, the affidavit said. During 2012-2017, nearly 3,000 km of additional national highways was proposed to be built but the government decided to de-notify 530 km of national highways in Madhya Pradesh and 627 km in Gujarat. asterix Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Non-Secular roads... :headshake: All secular people should avoid using those roads.. :agree: Get CBI to investigate if any Non-Secular 'encounters' were conducted on those roads or not. Also get them to investigate if there were any mass corruption in the contract tendering process or not...

saneindian Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Mind you the figures quoted are from 1997-2002. The ambitious golden quatrilateral program was launched in 2001. if the figures from last 2 years of NDA rule are added, the number would be much more. Vajpayee and Maj Gen BC Khanduri deserve the praise. Pertinent to point out, I frequently travel on the Delhi-Chandigarh highway and the pathetic condition of such an important highway for nearly 130 kms from Panipat to Ambala and a little further is the perfect proof of how terrible the situation is under UPA. Road has been under construction from 2005-06, work is stalled and you are forced to travel on the service roads.
carnish Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 We Want Modi ... backed by Vajpayee Sir. Need to Get anyone at the centre bar the Congress. :protest:

And yet they want to be considered balanced and non partisan and non fanatics.

ravishingravi Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 "Freedom of Choice" Thats all right. But then they are not liberals which to me is an opposite of fundamentalist.

Divvy Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 True. Only during NDA's rule, travelling to cities like Bangalore, Cochin took less time. The first time we saw wider and 4 lane roads. Also introduced this toll gate culture, which is getting on our skins too much.

Search through my posts to see how many times I have praised the Vajpayee government for it's initiative to build the highway infrastructure in the past. You won't do that because it spoils your narrative.

But not for Modi
randomGuy Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 1 thing is sure though, if modi comes to power, riots would stop happening in india. This is as sure to happen as the economy getting back on right track under modi.

This is as sure to happen as the economy getting back on right track under modi. There's a small problem of winning in states like UP etc. BJP was lagging in 4th position in UP last time... Look, Modi will never become PM of India.. The best he can do is to become a cabinet minister if at all NDA manages to win...
