Ultimate_Game Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 I saw dhoni before against pak ! Side he scored 100 smashed everyone and so did gambhir so even after this bad series I knew he was going to be good and after that 140 odd against pak the world knew it :D I remember watching that.......tri-series with India A' date=' Pakistan A and Kenya I believe.........[/quote'] Yup, I followed that India A series where he got 100s against Pak A teams. I was over the moon when he was selected and what a great moment it turned out for Team India
vamos_rafa Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 The real change for Dhoni happened after the Zimbabwe tour in 2005. Most of the team management including Greg Chappell and the physio (I do not remember his name) put him out as the player to watch for. Dhoni then started the first of the epic Sri Lanka pawnings in the home series under Dravid's captaincy which for me was the "change" in India's ODI cricket approach. The rise of Yuvraj Singh helped a lot too. I think before this, he did very well in the tri series in Sri lanka. Closed out a few tight games, we did lose the finals though.
Crookbond Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I think before this' date=' [b']he did very well in the tri series in Sri lanka. Closed out a few tight games, we did lose the finals though. In Zimbabwe, he came as the most improved cricketer per se not just as a batsman. In any case, here is MS Dhoni's scores in the Tri Series in SL No code has to be inserted here. There's ONLY 1 innings in which he batted 2nd and that was won by the 36th over. This series is most remembered for Dravid named as captain ahead of Ganguly (as he was not available for the first few matches due to injury). In any case, here is what happened in the final according to Tony Cozier's Wisden Almanack report They were cruising at 186 for two when Yuvraj was out in the 36th over, and that dismissal turned the game. Dravid was run out 19 runs later, and the next five wickets tumbled for 30, to the noisy jubilation of the 22,000 capacity crowd. We lost the game by 18 runs and proves the point the difference in chases by India after the resurgence of Yuvraj and the advent of MS Dhoni.

Didn't he score a 60 odd against WI? I thought he did score atleats 1 50. Maybe I was wrong.

Let me also put his numbers in context of other Indian batsmen during the tournament. http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/averages/batting_bowling_by_team.html?id=2537;team=6;type=tournament No code has to be inserted here.
Sidhoni Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Anyone remembers that India A vs India seniors match? I think that was the first time I saw Dhoni and then in the A teams tri series where him and Gambhir were in great form.

Sidhoni Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 That and his innings in the afro-asian cup That came much later though. I remember him and Jayawardene had a massive partnership in that game.
