No. Pranab Mukherjee will be Prez till 2017 - at that time LKA will be 90 years old -hence he won't be the Prez. He is too big a leader to have any other post in the Govt. apart from PM so no cabinet post as well. IMO the reason he took Gandhinagar was that in the Central Election Committee meeting where Gandhinagar was discussed (in which he did not come because he, unlike pretty much ALL leaders in the country, thinks it is not right for him to attend a meeting where his own candidature would be discussed), the CEC had a unanimous view that he should contest from Gandhinagar but seeing that me was reluctant to contest form Gandhnagar, they left the decision to him. I guess this was a face saving compromise for both the party and LKA - he got to choose his constituency himself while the party was not embarrassed because he ultimately decided to contest from Gandhinagar.
Sushma Swaraj says that some decisions of ticket distributions were not taken by the CEC.

IMO anything above 180-185 for BJP would mean Modi as PM. As for Jaitley - I said this in 2012 - he is a dark horse who could be the consensus candidate and I wouldn't mind if he does become PM. But right now Rajnath Singh is ahead of him - for the past few months he has been quietly establishing himself as an alternative around whom a coalition could be built - contesting from AtalJi's Lucknow seat is the latest move in his image building exercise - he is seen as harmless and easy to handle by people in the party as well potential allies (thats the way he became UP CM and then party Prez - twice) while Jaitley, for all his friendship across party lines, is seen as shrewd and too much in Modi's camp.

yeah. Some may have been discussed/decided in the Parliamentary Board meeting and then confirmed in CEC meeting. In some other cases (like in case of Lko or Varanasi or other seats where Modi & Co decided not to give tickets to senior leaders) the tickets were already decided by Modi/Rajanth Singh in consultation with RSS and were presented as fait accompli in CEC meeting.

Yes. I agree with observation of Rajnath establishing himself as alternative and that is pretty evident with his overtures. He has been the one person who reaching out to other parties and getting his rapport build with other leaders. He has clearly been making efforts as number 2 in party.

Times Now is reporting that Sushma Swaraj's comment was for Jaswant Singh's candidature too. I can for once even understand Jaswant Singh but can't wrap my head around Harin Pathak's decision. Why does BJP want to shoot itself in the foot? God knows!

its a tough call but modi is slowly building up allies but at the same time enemies in his own party. my family hails from ahmedabad and denying harin pathak a seat has been shocking for many of them, especially my mom. pathak has been MP for 7 terms and giving the seat to a comedian like paresh rawal is not right decision IMO

thats an easy one - Harin Pathak is a BIG supporter of LK Advani and at this moment thats reason enough for anyone, however senior/big a leader he/she may be, to be denied a ticket. Currently a systematic elimination of Advani supporters is going on in the party. The view is that if his suporters won't even be MPs then they won't be able to support him/Sushma Swaraj for leadership in a scenario where BJP doesn't get enough seats.

In fact even in 2009 Modi did not want to give him a ticket but was overruled by LKA and MM Joshi. As for making enemies in his own party - I think right now Modi really believes that there is a "Modi wave" in India and BJP will easily win enough seats so that he becomes PM and never has to deal with these leaders again. But if the scenario is even a little bit different then he will rue these decisions for a long, long time.

The guy was a useless MP... He was given ticket from Darjeeling as he wanted to fight from there. The guy never ever visited his constituency once he won it. The are the guys who had played crucial role in the loss of BJP IN THE 2009 elections and the general decline... Guys like these needs to be get rid of ASAP...

IMO the next senior leader to be denied a ticket may be Bhopal MP Kailash Joshi (and it will not be because of the so called "sting operation" - everyone in the BJP knows that Joshi is one of the most honest leaders in the party and would never do such a thing) - he offered LK Advani his Bhopal seat 2-3 days ago when there were doubts about whether LKA would contest from Gandhinagar or not.
It has already happened. Alok Sanjar has been given the ticket from Bhopal.

It's good that some sort of cleansing of these old hags going on in BJP... These are the guys who did diddly squat in previous 2elections. These guys should've tanked back seat now and let the new generation take over. Only in BJP have these 70+ Lok Sabha ticket seekers. I mean they don't even want to come to Rajya Sabha or take any other position.. These guys have been sticking to their constituencies and doing nothing. That MM Joshi hasn't done anything for Banaras... Local public don't want him again... These guys only win their seats on BJP tickets and haven't done anything for their constituencies... Good riddance...
