Scarves Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Really no country is bigger than Baseball. So how much revenue to US share with other countries like India are forced to? Same for AFL Even UEFA has agreed to give England Germany and the like karger share in the new proposed TV deal in proposition to the revenue they generate.Yet when India asks for a fair share equal to their contribution its killing the sport. Last time I checked the MLB uses the revenue in the ABL and other countries' baseball programs that don't have the sufficient funds to keep their leagues, the World Baseball Classic and putting money into Asia while Japan and Taiwan generate their fundings from their own leagues. I don't see the MLB trying to wrestle control and demand more funds towards them. UEFA is about a TV deal? This with the BCCI, ECB and CA is not about TV deals, so I don't know where the comparison is there. Does UEFA control what how money is circulated in regards to revenue sharing? No that's up to FIFA and each association's own board from their own leagues and grassroots.
BeautifulGame Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Seriously IPL on weekends instead of these midweek games will be awesome.Maybe they could extend IPL to 4 months and play only on weekends (8 teams - 4 matches - 2 each on both Saturday and Sunday) will be lot better than the current cramped schedule.

So US shares equal revenue with Taiwan and Japan as India is forced to share with Bangladesh and Newzeal land? This is mainly about the revenue sharing system and TV deals bring majority of them. I am referring to this Uefa has recently taken central control of TV rights for the competitive qualifying matches of all its member nations, promising large underwritten guarantees to the biggest countries. That has increased the pressure on Uefa to bring in funding from TV and commercial partners in order to meet them. http://www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer/international/uefa-considering-international-football-league-1.1556522

I am referring to this http://www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer/international/uefa-considering-international-football-league-1.1556522 I see the article but nor do I see anything confirmed and nor do I see any country trying to take control of the game and where three countries are safe from relegation in this UEFA model. In regards to baseball, it's like India using their money in other countries since that's what USA has been doing with their money. Anyway if the BCCI, ECB and CA are doing this for the interest of cricket, why not try to find a solution where countries like NZ, SA and co don't lose money rather than fulfill their greed. I love the irony that Indians will complain that they were subjected to being bullied by the ECB and ACB back in the day but are willing to do the same if not worse, since when are two wrongs a right and how could you even compare this to any other sport? How cricket is run is different to other sports. I don't know why you also ignore the facts that BCCI said that if this paper doesn't go through they will not play an ICC event, there is no sports body or even a team that would even say that.

Further highlights the notion that BCCI doesnt give a damn about Indian fans who truly enjoy the game. it really has become a monster with Srinivasan in charge. Idk what he did to get CA and ECB by his side. I knew the ICC or these 2 boards were far from being clean, but I honestly did not epect this to transpire.
G_B_ Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Yet their sports manage to not cause this much issue including a 'Position Paper' where if India doesn't get their way they won't play any ICC event? As much as a crook Goodall is, everything works out there because no team is bigger than the sport and ditto AFL/NRL where no team is bigger than the sport and the governing body makes sure that the poorer teams are helped rather than the bigger teams getting more slices. I'm sorry but in what other sport can one country demand to have an event every 3 years, where three countries can form a club and try to take control of a sport. This is about more than money and revenue sharing. actually money is shared equally among the BCCI affiliate state units and also every IPL team shares all the revenues. That means mumbai and rajasthan get nearly the same revenue for broadcasting. You are mistaking international sharing with domestic sharing. India too dont host events alone. The last world cup was going to be hosted among 4 of the 10 playing nations. Which was the case in 1987 and even 1996 (2 and 3 nations respectively) It makes sense for the subcontinent to host 1 in every 3 events because one in three permanent teams are in the subcontinent. Thats just basic maths.
Scarves Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Honestly it is really a hard sell here but if the bill isn't passed and BCCI don't play cricket in ICC events then what happens? I mean would the alliance break up just like that? And who's to say that ECB and CA are looking long term and find a way to cut off the BCCI ruining cricket in India? I mean all in all the game is stuffed regardless. Either you lose nations making it a niche sport or you lose the biggest moneymaker but still have several countries playing the sport. It's a fine line.

Literally nobody is losing out at ICC events. Teams like NZ and ZIM will have their income double from ICC events without doing anything. As i have mentioned multiple times, its down right racist that the BCCI have to manage cricket in a nation of 1.2 billion while the NZ cricket have to do the same in the nation of 4 million and they get the same revenue. Despite bringing in most of the income. Which sport does that happen in? you mention and give examples of Major League baseball and sharing there, its not the responsibility of New york Yankees to fund something which is a dud as test cricket and ends up losing money or even ranji which is a huge drain. and speaking of baseball, maybe its time to compare Major League Baseball to its feeder Minor league baseball. Cause trust me there is no revenue sharing going on there.....

Why the fudge would they want to host BD or SL games against other opposition rather than India? Nobody is going to come to watch these games. India will play all its game in India and Sri Lanka and BD will play their group and maybe QF games in their country.

For a sport to be well off there needs to be parity, so yes NZ a team I might add that is beating India should deserve more money that currently attaining with a loan I might add for hosting a test series rather than the ICC taking that money and spreading it around the full nations. Yet you want India, England and Australia to have more money causing detriments to the development of a sport which will become a niche sport eventually and you are using the term racist flippantly? So you care about India more than a development of a sport that you cherish, so India can feel better about themselves? think carefully. Why the fudge would they want to host BD or SL games against other opposition rather than India? Nobody is going to come to watch these games. India will play all its game in India and Sri Lanka and BD will play their group and maybe QF games in their country. So they can keep all the revenue considering this is what it is about. I don't see where it says that India are willing to host an ICC event with SRL and BAN at all, if anything they will want to keep every single match to fill up stadiums and people will watch it on TV which means more ratings, more money and such there is more revenue for the BCCI. Do you think they want to share it with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh?

As a cricket fanI absolutely dont agree with the relegation clause but i dont see any board having an issue with that.Have a single board official country questioned let alone criticized the relegation clause? No.They have only opposed the revenue distribution model so far.I wonder why? Everyone know if they want to generate more revenue for their boards then they need to guarantee long term participation of India and Ashes to interest bidders. Ashes can survive without other boards and India will survive without smaller countries but they are the one that need Indian tours and Indian participation .So if anything this relegation clause is done for the benifit of other boards rather than the big 3. The real issue here is the revenue distribution. And with India more than 80% deserve more than the 20% revenue share we are demanding
zep1706 Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 After destroying BCCI and team India, the CSK mafia is on its way to destroy ICC and cricket in general. The blackmailing starts http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/story/712253.html
Scarves Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Think outside India for a second. New Zealand for example, less money you get. How are you going to compete with basketball, soccer and of course Rugby Union with less money to develop your sport, there will be less money spent on grassroots, on getting better cricketers, better facilities, worse TV rights because sponsors will see a dwindling interest in the sport and that would be bad for the NZCB for example. You basically lose a country just like that.

The cricket fans who go to stadiums and watch on TV - IPL and ODI matches or the ones love test cricket but dont bother attending games or even watching them on TV.

I think us and England cricket fans can give you heaps of answers to that question, or if you didn't hear about the world record crowd in Melbourne during the 4th test. Ive been to the Australia-South Africa 2nd Test in 2005-06 and i can tell you that it was an experience which i'll cherish forever.

You basically lose a country just like that. Do the rugby association in NZL care for India or for the facilities of indian sportsmen.Same for any other sport. Every other sporting body in India apart from BCCI is inept and struggling bad financially and players there are poorly paid and more often than not struggle to meet their ends.Yet i dont see any other country fund them or share there revenue to help these sports in India. The fact is the resposibility of the board is for their fans not for other countries. Frankly if you cant survive test cricket without generating enough revenue domestically then stop bother playing test cricket. You live within your mean not depending on the handout from other boards.
rajmarie Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 BCCI is offcouse looking to expand IPL. They are not telling it openly...but they want to. The BCCI revenue double in the last year due to IPL & they want to make is bigger to cash it further. Nothing wrong but under current ICC structure they cant. So they take control of ICC. Who better to get support for it then CA & ECB. these 2 countries have to own T20 leagues...& BCCI can guarantee them top Indian players which can help these 2 boards to get better TV revenue too. I can understand BCCI asking for more ICC revenue along with CA & ECB...& its logical is a way also. Other countries have done nothing to increase popularity of cricket in their own backyard. Plus Test cricket has become boring in the last few year (ironoy here since the wickets were dulled down in order for the Test matches to last 5 days to satisfy TV broadcaster revenue only). Now Test cricket has to make way for the format that brings in more revenue. Cricket needs to move forward & more T20 club level leagues need to be played. Plus India should get ICC events once every 3/4 years. Since India is the biggest market & revenue generator. I also want our Indian government to start taxing BCCI as a business since BCCI is doing all this as business only.
