IMO the openers are our biggest problem right now as we always look like a settled unit when the openers give even a decent start. In ODIs its even worse as if they fail and we find ourselves 100/5 trying to reach a respectable total. He may be a good option to replace Dhawan if the latter fails in NZ and first two or three tests in England. Vijay did well in SA and therefore deserves a longer rope but time is running out for Dhawan. He averages 52 in List A but the problem is 75 SR. We can't be sure whether he has the game for ODIs but can be a contender for Tests. He is also a terrific outfielder from what I saw in IPL, Kohli was no match for him.

He debuted 3 years back in 2010 at 18, did not do well and was dropped, but came back last year and did decently and has continued this season as well. He is not yet ready though. Playing trundlers in India and playing good bowlers overseas are two different things. He is still only 21 and need a few A tours. By 23-24, he might be ready if he does well on A tour and continues to do well in FC.
