There was a little more than a barking dog.

The other evidence was an axe and blood stained clothes recovered at Babar's instance. The HC said that there was no proof that the articles were sealed before sending it for analysis to rule out tampering.
Not sure what they mean by "instance". I think they meant residence, in which case, he got off on a technicality. Amazing how consistently Indian police manages to mess up investigation protocols leaving ample space for the defence to drive a tank through.

By 'instance' they mean that it is Babar who provided them the lead for the discovery of the murder weapon and the clothes. Would be interesting to read the judgement of the trial court in this case. Also, why would the HC conclude that there is a chance that the axe and the clothes were tampered with? There is a clear lack of 'motive', and that is precisely what probably tilted the case in his favour.
