BCCI proposes ten amendments to ODI rules following drubbing in overseas ODI series

Following the recent debacles against South Africa and New Zealand in the ODIs, the BCCI is proposing amendments to ODI rules which will be applicable when India is playing abroad. Being the consummate professional organization, ranked first in all matters of transparency, probity, integrity and accountability, the BCCI has elicited views based on a survey of all public and private entities around the world conducted by the internationally reputed agency, NS Holdings, a subsidiary of India Cements, and accordingly formulated the following amendments for the benefit of Indian cricket (which is the same as world cricket): 1) Any ball above the mid-ribs to be designated as no-ball and the bowler warned for dangerous bowling. On the third such offense, bowler to be barred from further proceedings. 2) Any ball which clocks above 150 kmph to be called a no-ball followed by 2 free hits. 3) If a catch is dropped when India is fielding, but is successfully taken on the 1st bounce, it is to be still held as legitimate. The retake need not be attempted by the same fielder. 4) Sixes to be declared for their vertical distance too, not just horizontal. So, if a ball goes higher than, say, 50 feet, it’s automatically a six, even if caught by a fielder inside the boundary line. Plus, any runs earned by running between the wickets in the interim to be added to the total. One of the stakeholders suggested that a clause be inserted which awards runs proportional to the vertical height attained by the ball. For example, if the ball crosses 50 feet, it’s 6 runs. For 60 feet, 8 runs. And maximum runs for a single hit of this manner to be capped at 10. 5) Any player taller than 6ft 6 inches not to be allowed to play matches against India. 6) During Indian matches abroad, names of stands to be changed to Gavaskar stand, Tendulkar stand etc and open seating to be replaced by plastic seating to give Indian cricketers an impression that they are playing at home. Indian cricket fans and jobless youth may be ferried in by the BCCI so that the stadium is full to the brim. 7) All pitch curators to consult (read: follow diktats of) BCCI/Indian team management on the preparation of the pitch. To uphold the spirit of cricket, any pitch having more than 20 blades of grass to declared unfit for hosting matches against India. 8) Every team playing India must carry minimum three Indian origin players who bowl off-spin, field badly and can’t bat. They must be given at least 20 overs to bowl, preferably when India needs to accelerate. However, England cannot take Monty Panesar into the squad if the pitch is likely to develop cracks. 8) Out of form batsmen who suddenly discover their form against the Indian attack will be declared retired hurt. For too long, Indian bowlers have charitably revived many an ailing batsman’s career in this manner and it is time they are compensated. 9) If any opposition team manages to score less than 250 in the stipulated 50 overs in a match, they would be deemed to have lost the entire series. However, they would be adequately compensated by awarding them a tour to India consisting at least 7 ODIs and 3 Test matches. If the team is West Indies or Bangladesh, it would be 10 ODIs and 5 Test matches. 10) During death overs, the opposition will be allowed to have a go at only one Indian bowler’s failed yorker turned full toss per over. The rest will have to be gently blocked.
