rainy day Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Even though I am Pakistani, its easily visible that SL are the best sub continenet after winning both Asia Cup and WT20. They would be the only side from Asia to have a chance at the 2015 WC and would give Aus/SA/NZ tough competition.

Look at the groups since wc 2007, sl 99% paired with those weaker teams. So yh they would have a better chance
great siri Posted April 9, 2014 Author Posted April 9, 2014 well it may be harder for them but sure they have a better chance since they'll meet their icc tournament buddies ENGLAND and NEW ZEALAND again. Look at the groups since wc 2007, sl 99% paired with those weaker teams. So yh they would have a better chance hey first understand the format .1st round accounts fdor nothing .we r playing 1st round games to only see who plays who in quarter finals.so we will be playing one of ind, pak,sa,wi in quarter .and talking about being placed with eng,nz these wc we beat wi and ind in semi, final.last t20 wc both wi n srilanka from eng nz group played the final.2007 wc all teams played all teams in super eight except two subcontinent teams.so cant undersstand ur foolish claims how we r placed in easy group.on another note 2007 wc format was the best format and all the deserving teams go as far as they actually go unlike 2011 where ind became champion by just winning 3 games that too all flukes
thongale Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 After Lady Jaya and Sanga don't see any worthy batsmen from SLThe usual BS whe heard when Aravinda and Arjuna retired. In came Mahela and Sanga.

But you guys got to the finals by defeating Nz and England - both are *****y teams in the subcontinent. Is an achievement?

Is an achievement? agreed we beat crappy eng n nz .thas wat i am telling. but u know 2007 and 2003 were like real formats where each team plays each one .even last ct format which ind won is also okk one but 2011 n 2015 formats r pure crap .

Well the problem is there aren't many cricket playing nations which are equally good unlike soccer. Even in 2007 except beating India (which was even defeated by BD, we were so crappy), SL didn't beat any big names to get into the final (it was again NZ and Eng). But that's the nature of the game. We don't have many good teams, in all conditions. But 2015 might be different, we are playing in NZ and AUS. Eng, NZ will be more than an handful in these conditions, Aus & SA will be unbeatable. Let see how the sub continent teams do.
Marut Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 People who use the same "were a small country" arguement should read gladwell's outliers. In it he explains that places like Harvard, playing professional hockey requires a certain minimum standard. Once that is achieved the difference comes down to how hard an individual works, luck etc. The Idea that because India has 100X the population there should be a bowler 100X as good as Malinga is down right ludicrous. At the end of the day its 11 vs 11 and the level of skill of each player is more or less the same plus or minus some abilities for each individual. Barbados, which has 1/100 of Sri Lanka's population, has produced many legends that Sri Lanka can only dream of. So the population argument is a very feeble one.

SL will have correct batsman like Sanga and Thiri who can tackle the conditions, and Mathews have a particular liking for the Aussie conditions. Chandimal, despite his struggles, does well on bouncy pitches than in the subcontinent. Expect tough challenge from SL.

-Robin- Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 lol the best batting line up in the world can only manage 19 from last 4 overs and (mind u last 2 overs were fully faced by dhoni and kohli) n u expect west indies to chase 81 from last 6 overs lol.thanks to rain we had a fluke win?????really ???truth is india can never win a single game batting first so in one sense all of india' date='s wins were flukes[/quote'] your team could not defend 190 against england, so yes that was a fluke win against WI.
Marut Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 ^^ Exactly' date=' it makes India even crappier.[/quote'] How? Population is useful only to a certain extent - after that it is a burden in every respect.
undisputed chap Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 I think srichu is right they have better bowlers in kula, malinga, mathews , parera . The conditions would suit them better in aus & nz. While dhoni continues to use ashwin & jadeja who won't pick up wickets. Nohit will score usual 3(20). Rahane & raydu cant score at decent pace. Our bowlers will continue to be whacked in end overs & our spinners will be useless. SL atleast have thiru ,jaya, & sanga who will do well. Their spinners will make short work of minnows & malinga will be difficult to score off at the end. I expect them to reach semis atleast.
sillymidoff Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 just 20 million people and sl still routinely smashes india. the talent in sl ridiculous!! :yay:

thongale Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 How? Population is useful only to a certain extent - after that it is a burden in every respect.Agreed. It was brought up as aretort to your argument. Was never a fan of the population size argument. Unless the country is very small it has very few bearing on selecting 15 players. I am sure that Sl can find about 30 test standard players. But India would be able to find nearly 500. But it's finally whether you can find test quality 15 that matter.
