Magnificent Murali

Mr. Wicket

Recommended Posts

Murali this series v. Australia: 96 overs this series, 8 maidens, 310 runs, 3 wickets. Strike rate of ouch - 32 overs per wicket, average of 103.3 runs per wicket. :hysterical: Wonder if he has statements to make to the media now about how he's going to play down under. Or have Phil Jaques, Hussey and Clarke beaten him into silence with Gilchrist's brace of sixes providing the icing on the cake?

Bl-oody aussies are just too good, even without Warne, McGraph etc...

From Cric.. Figures of 1 for 140 don't reflect the problems he gave the batsmen. In both Tests he worked on first- and second-day surfaces and still created discomfort for the Australians, who were willing to attack him in bursts but generally preferred caution. Only Ricky Ponting has been fallible, giving him two of his three wickets in the series, and Murali must be the only bowler in the world to want more overs at him.

Very true. And srilankan fielding has also not been upto the mark especially the slip fielders..In the first test he should have had 4-5 wickets had the fielders not droped those catches..

I love the timing of Ponting's declarations. He declared in the first innings after Murali's run tally had just gone up to 300+ for the series (with Gilchrist taking him for 2 consecutive sixes) - when he declared here, Murali had conceded exactly 400 runs for 4 wickets. But as sooda will tell us, he of course had Australia in all sorts of trouble, caused problems non stop (especially with that strike rate of 174 and e/r of 3.44), came this close to taking a series of five-fors (just four wickets away in his last two innings) and was handicapped by not having a slow Galle turner to help him out. Poor man.
