SRT100 Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I as reading on cricinfo that it was suggested that Cook use the Batting powerplay between overs 15-20. http://www.espncricinfo.com/england-v-india-2014/content/current/story/776471.html It got me thinking that Cook will employ this tactic if they get off to a good start, Dhoni tends to use the part timers from overs 15-20 and given there is set batsmen at the crease they would be able to attack them with ease. Conversely though Dhoni would respond to this tactic by using his strike bowlers obviously instead. The advantage this would give England is that Dhoni would have to postpone using his part timers which if England have wickets in hand can take advantage of. India under Dhoni have traditionally used the Powerplay from 35-40 simply because the "new" ball is now ~17 odd overs old and it has lost some ability to swing, plus with wickets in hand the team can go on the attack in the final 15 overs and go at around 8 or 9 runs an over.
G_B_ Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 it depends on the team and where the strengths are. If you are top heavy then IMO its the right choice.
