Though India lost it won it's pride by making such a spirited effort.I wished to list India's best ever performances in test matches lost,in order of merit.By a strange coincidence many of them ate against Australia. 1.India losing by 48 runs to Australia in 1977-78 Chasing 493 runs some great fifties by Vishwanath,Amarnath and lower order batting took India to a threshold of a famous win.At 415-6 it looked like India were pulling off the impossible. 2.India losing by 48 runs chasing a target of 363 runs in the 1st test at Adelaide.-At one stage India looked like coasting home against all the odds with Murli Vijay and Virat Kohli in full flow.9 out of 10 teams would not have come close to victory. 3.India losing to New Zealand in the 1st test in 2014 chasing over 400 runs India made one of it's most spirited comebacks after a deficit of over 300 run sin the 1st innings.Atone stage India looked like acheiving the impossible. 4.India losing by 38 run sin the 4th test of the series in 1991-92.Chasing a huge 4th innings score a superb century by Azharuddin brought India on the threshold of famous win. 5.India losing to Pakistan by 16 runs in 1997 The wicket was turning square and broken yet Gavaskar led India to a resolute chase? 6.India losing to England by 7 wickets at Lords in 1982 Facing a deficit of 305 runs a superb ininngs by Dilip Vengsarkar and a Soberseque all-round effort by Kapil Dev won India an honourable defeat intsead of the humiliation of an innings defeat. 7.1951-India losing to England at Lords by 8 wickets Vinoo Mankad's epic heroics gained India an honourable defeat scoring 184 and 72 and capturing 5 wickets for 231. 8.India losing to West Indies in the 1st test at Kingston in 1983 Although India lost,at one stage it threatened the ascendancy of a great West Indian team .Andy Robert's blistering spell and Viv Richard's onslaught reversed the tables. 9-10.India losing by 16 run sin the 1st test and in the 2nd test by 2wickets both in the 1977-78 series down under.India lost 2 cliff hangers in succession.

All we can conclude is that often India have to chase huge totals. A product of your bowlers being cannon fodder. :haha:

winning after getting only 12 opposition wickets is a disgrace. don't remember those old games, from my memory the recent NZ test was the real deal.
