There was a mini-scare for R Ashwin, struck painfully near his right elbow off the first ball he faced as he went too early into a pull. The offspinning allrounder immediately left the nets wringing his hand, but after ice-pack treatment and a few minutes on the sidelines, he was back in business, also trying his hand at the aerial strokes that don't come naturally to a fairly orthodox batsman like him. That Ashwin didn't turn up any the worse for the knock must have come as a relief to the team management, as must have been the fact that Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled for extended periods at reasonable pace without any discomfort, suggesting a return to peak fitness after having had his issues with injury coming into the World Cup.

One notable absentee from the South African session was Dale Steyn, the pace spearhead who is under the weather. Steyn is down with a mild flu which clearly affected him during that Zimbabwe game, but news from the South African camp is that as of now, there isn't much danger of him missing Sunday's showdown.
