You rubbish Dhoni's 50+ avg in the subcontinent as him cashing in on flat tracks. When we counter that with his avg 50+ in Australia, you then start looking for his stats against Australia. And even that looks good. You even rubbish that claiming those performance mostly happened in India. So basically you now want to look at performances in Aus vs Aus. If it matters, Dhoni has 340 runs @ 42.5 against Australia in Australia. Just for giggles, if we want to do this kinda analysis, where do we stop ? Going this route, I am afraid every player can be made to look ordinary. For Bevan if you look at his performances vs Pakistan outside of Pakistan (as Pakistani pitches are widely believed to be flat), then Bevan's avg is around 46 (a drop of 10 ticks). Similarly if you do South Africa in SouthAfrica Bevan only averages 43 (a drop of 15 ticks). In Sri Lanka (equivalent to a subcontinental batsmen playing in South Africa) Bevan only averages 27 (a drop of 30 ticks). You can keep going like this scrutinizing the conditions these guys played in, the exact bowlers they faced, what form they were in & so on. But who's got the time to do this type of analysis and who's to say even after all that one has done a fair job ? You dont fluke out so many times in a career spanning a decade over 250+ games. And you can't fool so many cricketing pundits if you are a worthless FTB. Unfortunately, in spite of the good points you make, your posts miss a key element to convince people -- common sense. Just for perspective, Rahul Dravid is a better batsman than Dhoni overall. But is he a better ODI player than Dhoni ? Simple. Opponents fear Dhoni. OTOH, the sight of Bevan is usually relief for opponents. If Bevan bats for 20 overs usually the opponents have the upper hand and they'll get home. If you reverse engineer why this is the case, you will see the light!

Dhoni averaging a stupendous 107 while chasing and winning the match is a little complicated. If you take out SL, Pak, Bang, Zim, WI then he averages 48 while chasing and winning the match against Aus, SA, NZ, Eng that includes both home and away. IIRC he averages something like 120+ against SL, Pak, Bang. If not for Dhoni I'm pretty sure fans here will call this player an FTB. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Bevan was an FTB too. Which is why he could not make it to the test team and averaged 29 after 18 tests, much inferior to Dhoni's test records. In ODIs we do not distinguish between home and away records as much we do in tests, because ODI wickets are generally flat all over the world. If you really want to put down ODI batsmen you can always devise some criteria to do that - for example you can put down AB with the following stat: 18 out of 20 AB hundreds came against weak bowling attacks.

Everybody's saying he's proved but I want some scorecards to back him up against quality attacks away from home. As I went through both their stats a little deeper I came to a conclusion that both are good under pressure obviously. Dhoni's good when your top order set up the match for you to finish, on the other hand Bevan was good when you have a mountain to climb with just tail-enders to follow. All all their #8-#10 batsmen had career batting average in the range 15-20. Except McGrath pretty much every Australian batsman could make a 20 or 30 when required. Baven rarely pulled off a 250+ chase even with these healthy tailenders. The kind of targets Bevan helped Australia chase with the tail are generally between 170-220.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Another factor was bevan was chasing par or subpar scores due to aus bowling and fielding where as dhoni always had to chase 20-30 runs more than par score due to inferior bowling and fielding for most of his career.
