http://www.vox.com/2015/4/23/8474125/the-real-side-effect-of-a-gluten-free-diet-scientific-illiteracy ......Walk into any grocery store or coffee shop and you'll find gluten-free muffins, gluten-free chips, and gluten-free bread. Gluten has replaced fat as the ingredient we love to shun. And yet, scientists can't find any good evidence to support this fad. Gluten is a protein composite that gives shape to grains like wheat, rye, and barley. And it's true that a very small fraction of people have celiac disease, a real medical condition that causes their bodies to violently reject gluten. But that's only a small fraction of people, and it's not enough to explain the craze. The rest of us are going gluten-free without any real scientific basis for doing so......

A person should judge himself/herself whether gluten free diet is beneficial to him/her or not. Djokovic was not diagnosed any gluten allergy and his career was on verge of end when he shifted to gluten free diet on advice of some not so scientific doctor. That was game changer for him .

The problem is that the success of the diet for one celebrity is co-opted by charlatans who then write books, claim "modern" wheat is bad for all humanity because it is genetically engineered (which it is not, BTW, and even if it were, it does not make it necessarily bad), and turn on the infomercial flood to trick millions of people into believing that it is the elixir that will change their lives. My guess is that Dr. Igor C lucked out with Novak; for every Novak, there are probably a 100 for whom it did nothing, but they are not celebrities and no one will ever know. The biggest charlatan of them all? Dr. Oz. http://www.newyorker.com/news/daily-comment/columbia-and-the-problem-of-dr-oz?intcid=mod-most-popular Brilliant surgeon. Charismatic. But uses his background as a famous doctor to dispense dangerous advice and sell false hope to desperate people.

So does eating Jowar and Bajra rotis instead of Pure Atta rotis harm people? :nervous: I started eating Jowar and Bajra ( millets ) rotis 3-4 times a week instead of wheat not because of gluten or anything but just for variety. I have not read the article but does it say eating gluten-free grains is bad?
