Sinquefield Cup, the 2nd part of the Grand Chess Tour to begin in 2 days in St Louis :yay::dance:. This time Wesley So is the 10th player. Can Carlsen mount a fightback or will Topalov/Anand continue to lead?

Disastrous start by Anand. Lost his first 2 rounds to Nakamura and Grischuk. Playing at a very weak level right now. But may be that is to be expected at this age, he will never ever be consistent like in the good old days.

Karjakin won the Chess World Cup in Baku. Svidler finished 2nd, missing out on the opportunity to equal Vishy who has 2 World Cups, the most by any player in history. Svidler was leading 2-0 in classical and had a winning position in G3 only to blunder repeatedly and lose. Karjakin was also trailing in the rapid tie breaker but Svidler simply choked.

The line up for the Candidates 2016 is:

1. Anand

2. Nakamura

3. Caruana

4. Karjakin

5. Svidler

6. Topalov(almost certain based on rating, >99%)

7. Giri(90% certain, unless he has a very bad slump the next 2 months he will qualify on the basis of rating)

8. Organizer's nominee(depends on host country, Armenia and USA have shown interest as of now, still some time to go)

Karjakin came back from behind so many times in this 128 player KO event, really a clutch player. Also an extremely strong event with only Carlsen and Vishy amongst the elite players to  give it a miss. Hats off to the Russian phenom. Such events are so brutal for chess players with hardly any rest days in between. Now think back to 1997/98, where  Vishy had to play a title match vs Karpov only 3 days after winning the FIDE knockout. FIDE was so unfair to non Russians in that era.
