The Outsider
It's the difference in mindset between opening and coming one drop rather than an actual difference in technique and pitch condition. Link to comment
chanakya
dosen't matter sehwag is here now :D Link to comment
Desi Cartman
Its simple ! We just need to make sure that we lose the first wicket when the score is between 30-39 :haha:. Link to comment
kumble_rocks
Great work Bheem, these stats are revelation to me. I can't believe that he has had 78 innings( that translates to roughly 50 tests ) in which he has ahd to bat within 5 overs. But the flip side is , he definitely averages better after some of the shine is gone from new ball which is after 10 overs. Link to comment
MundaPakistani
Lets keep it simple. In 8 test matches as an opener he has averaged 33 with 2 tons in VERY high scoring draws Dravid should NOT open. Link to comment
King
I think the stats in fact suggest he shouldn't really be opening. His average is at the best when India has posted more than 30 runs on the board or has played 10 overs. Link to comment

The Outsider
With Sehwag's inclusion in the squad, all this is a moot discussion at least for the first test. Yuvraj will sit out of the Boxing Day test. Link to comment

bunny
Boss Bhai: Please have a look at VVS stats when he plays 1-down and has to come within the first 10 overs. They are not pretty. So, opening with Dravid means that VVS will play 1-down, and considering RD's recent form and WJ's unpredictability, it's likely that both RD and VVS wouldn't go on to make a big score. And all the scoring will have to be done by SRT, SG and YS. That's never gonna work. Using the same stats one can also argue for SRT to open, but the truth is that all Indian batsmen have been struggling against the new ball of late (Over the last 3 tours, SRT averages 65 (in 7 innings) when he comes after the first 10 overs and 25 (in 7 innings) when he comes within the first 10 overs. RD averages 43 (in 3) and 25(in 13) in similar situations). So, let's hope that we play two regular openers and atleast one of them does their job, otherwise in all likelihood we are going to lose the test. Link to comment
living
Dravid is an all-time batting great and he takes his own place in the team' date=' i.e, No. 3. Lesser players like sehwag and the rest can be tossed around.[/quote'] Exactly, All I want is: 1) Specialist Opener 2) Specialist Opener 3) RD 4) SRT .... 5 - 11 : DON'T CARE Link to comment
