amiret Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 In one of the worst indictments of the Akhilesh Yadav government and the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, Jagendra Singh, the Shahjahanpur-based journalist who died on June 8, blamed one of the Ministers of the government for getting him burnt alive by local policemen. In a dying declaration on video, shot before he breathed his last because of burns, he said, “Why did they have to burn me? If the Minister and his people had something against me, they could have hit me and beaten me, instead of pouring kerosene over me and burning me.†In the video, a copy of which is with The Hindu, the journalist blamed Ram Murti Verma, Minister for Dairy Development, for his death. Singh was set on fire allegedly by a group of policemen and goons allied with Mr. Verma on June 1. He battled for life for a week at a hospital in Lucknow before he died. The Shahjahanpur journalist who wrote extensively against alleged cases of corruption and illegal mining by the Minister had received repeated threats to his life. “Prakash Rai [police inspector] was there and along with him were present four-five police personnel. The police team, led by Prakash Rai, barged into the house and started assaulting me. They could have as well arrested me,†said Singh, while crying in pain. Singh used to singlehandedly run Shahjahanpur Samachar, a page on Facebook which had a wide following in local circles. Most of the time, his reports were followed up by mainstream and local publications and TV channels, something which had allegedly angered the Minister. The Shahjahanpur police had initially maintained that the journalist had committed suicide but after public outrage, registered a murder case against the Minister and the policemen. “Ram Murti Verma can have me killed. At this time, politicians, thugs, and police, all are after me. Writing about the truth has gone against my life,†Singh, in his late forties, wrote on May 22 on his Facebook profile. The dying declaration of Singh, claimed his two sons, Rahul and Raghvendra, only further proves the involvement of Mr. Verma, who as per indications coming from a meeting of the top brass of the Samajwadi Party, is expected to be dismissed. UP is a lawless sh!*h*le. modi was right , after reading this i am ashamed to be an indian.

While he was speaking to the cameras , he did not seem to be getting any urgent medical help . :facepalm: "He battled for life for a week at a hospital in Lucknow before he died." I think he could have been saved if he had been given proper medical care.

I think he could have been saved if he had been given proper medical care. 40% burn is lethal , sometimes it takes a week before DIC sets in even if appropriate care is taken.

Ofcourse DIC can occur in Sepsis,but the primary cause of death is sepsis secondary to burns. PS:Are you doctor?In India?

Once you lose your skin which is the primary protection its difficult in India to be infection free.What is needed is a isolated burn ward which is not available in most hospitals in India.ICUs in India are a den of infections,including MRSAs MDR E Coli etc etc.

You may not like her brand of politics etc but she had control over her party and from what i am hearing and am told it was the best ever 5 years in terms of governance for UP. The law and order situation was under control. Ie she had a grip over her party. I still dont understand why non yadav voters ever vote the SP. I mean sure you want secular there was the options of the Congress and the BSP in 2012. Its not as if the SP are an unknown quantity, they basically have had multiple terms in power over the past 25 years. Each time there is a law and order situation. I am backing the BJP to win in UP in 2017, but if they dont i do hope a combo of BSP and Congress manages to form government. SP is the worst. Nobody is safe. I am from Maharashtra and I can say that law and order in the state never really deteriorates regardless of who is in power NCP-Congress or BJP-Sena. Both are nearly the same. Ie there is some standard.

In a way I salute RaGa for backing Nitish as CM candidate. Makes sure that state does not become a war zone as Lalu potentially would have pushed forward his dumb children. Thats another state where I want Bjp alliance to win but I do hope regardless of what happens the Jd(u) polls more in terms of seats than the RJD.

I wonder why multi-billion $$ corporate hospitals even allow visitors inside ICU's in India ? I have personally witnessed this and even heard from a US returned Infectious Disease specialist who was aghast at this practice in His own hospital . Sadly , Jagendra Singh may have lived if he had been provided better healthcare.

A large number of their supporters still believe in Gunda Raj where you can take the law in your hands and get away because of proximity to power. Akhilesh Yadav has totally failed to control the law and order situation or even his own party's workers/leaders and it will hopefully lead to his fall in 2017. I agree with GB that despite her many other failings like massive corruption, law and order was one area where Mayawati was/is/will be better than SP. She had an iron grip on her party & the state administration and was ruthless in punishing failure in this aspect - that's something Akhilesh has not been able to do as he has failed to come out of his father's shadow even after 3 years as CM. In fact Shivpal Yadav has risen far more in these 3 years and has become the Govt & party's go to person in dealing with difficult situations.

I mentioned this in the NRI thread that this is one of the hidden costs that NRI's returning to india do not consider.
