There is no point paying token money of 10-15 lakh to these rich cricketers... instead they shuold encourage support staff...

Read this NEW DELHI, December 15: Call it the Board of Confusion for Cricket in India. The BCCI's big annual awards night is scheduled to be held on Sunday but the list of awardees announced on Saturday contained a curious addition, which was brought to the Board's notice only when TOI got into action. The BCCI is now wishing the name was not there. According to the list, Delhi's talented all-rounder Abhinav Bali, a left-arm spinner and batsman who has been a prolific scorer at the under-22 level for the past two years, has been chosen as the recipient of the MA Chidambaram Trophy for the best under-22 cricketer. The award contains a trophy and a cheque for Rs 50,000. Nothing wrong there, as Bali, from the Rohtak Road Gymkhana club, has also played five first-class games and deserves every bit of the recognition. But there is one small problem: Bali has since joined the rebel Indian Cricket League and plays for the Delhi Jets team. The BCCI has already banned all those who have defected to the ICL, so it was strange to see Bali's name on the list. When TOI asked a top board official if the BCCI was okay with giving an award to an ICL cricketer, he was initially taken aback and promised to get back, even saying that since these awards were for last year's performance, maybe it didn't matter. After consultations with colleagues, however, he confirmed that Bali would now not get the award. "Frankly, we did not know," he said, "Now he will not get the award and we will give it to someone else. There are so many junior cricketers, how are we supposed to track each of them?'' Another top BCCI official said: ‘‘It was the Delhi and District Cricket Association's responsibility to inform us. They did not inform us that Bali had joined the ICL. Now we will give it to someone else. I cannot decide now and we will take a call tomorrow.'' The DDCA's sports secretary Sunil Dev is out of the country and could not be contacted. However, another DDCA official admitted, ‘‘The way things are happening, with players joining rebel leagues, maybe the DDCA should have informed the board.'' The decision will now only be taken on Sunday morning, barely hours before the presentation. But why not simply give Bali the award? It could be a laudable gesture on the Board's part because Bali's performances came for his state and not the ICL. However, to save face, and to stick to its stand on the rebel league, BCCI will force Bali to miss out on the award now. Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and skipper Anil Kumble - alongwith legendary Nari Contractor will be the star recipients at the BCCI's awards night on Sunday evening at a South Mumbai hotel. The awardees: 1) Lifetime Achievement award: Nari Contractor (trophy, citation and cheque of Rs 15 lakhs) 2) Polly Umrigar Award for Outstanding performance in international matches in the season 2006-07: Tendulkar (trophy, cheque of Rs 5 lakhs) 3) Overall best performance in domestic cricket in 2006-07: Mumbai for winning Ranji Trophy (trophy) 4) Felicitation of woman cricketer Arjuna Awardee in 2006: Anju Jain (trophy) 5) Felicitation of ICC Women's Cricketer of The Year 2007: Jhulan Goswami (trophy, cheque of Rs 1 lakh) 6) Felicitation of woman cricketer Arjuna awardee in 2007: Anjum Chopra (trophy) 7) Felicitation of Tendulkar (trophy): For 11,000 runs in Test cricket and 15,000 runs in ODIs 8) Felicitation of Dravid (trophy): For 10,000 runs in ODI 9) Felicitation of Anil Kumble (trophy): For claiming more than 550 Test wickets and being appointed India captain 10) Madhavrao Scindia Award for the highest run aggregate in Ranji Trophy 2006-07: Robin Uthappa (trophy, cheque of Rs 1 lakh) 11) Madhavrao Scindia Award for the the highest wicket-taker in Ranji Trophy in 2006-07: Ranadeb Bose (trophy, cheque of Rs 1 lakh) 12) MA Chidambaram Trophy for best under-15 cricketer: Mandeep Singh of Punjab (trophy, cheque of Rs 50,000) 13) MA Chidambaram Trophy for best under-17 cricketer: K Ajay Rana of Himachal Pradesh (trophy, cheque of Rs 50,000) 14) MA Chidambaram Trophy for best under-19 cricketer: Ajinkya Rahane of Mumbai (trophy, cheque of Rs 50,000) 15) MA Chidambaram Trophy for best under-22 cricketer: Abhinav Bali of Delhi (trophy, cheque of Rs 50,000) 16) MA Chidambaram Trophy for the Best Woman Cricketer: Jaya Sharma (trophy, cheque of Rs 50,000) :hysterical::hysterical:
