Roles played by both have been different too. ABDV is a top order bat whose job is to score runs upfront, while MSD has played a finisher role a la Bevan. This is why the SRs are very different as well. All I can say is that it's disappointing to see MSD fanboys fail to accept that there are great ODI batsmen other than him (MSD is ATG, but there are others as well).

ABD's biggest claim to fame is how amazingly destructive he can be, and that super-destruction has only been witnessed against West Indies and minnows. He may still end up an ATG, but since the comparsion you brought was Dhoni, ABD still lags behind. The ability to excell under pressure, to deliver when it matters the most, this is what sets Dhoni apart. ABD is lightyears behind when it comes to this, and no, it isn't because of their batting order. Kohli bats up the order, and even he has proven his worth when it comes to chasing big totals quite consistantly. AB on the other hand fails to create that magic against top teams, South Africa's horrible record chasing is a testimony to the fact. AB isn't the same batsman under pressure. Now that doesn't make him bad, he is still world class, but comapred to Dhoni, he lags behind.
