Differences Between Dhoni and Kohlis Captaincy Styles

1. Goes for a win risking a loss 2. Encourages aggressive behavior, sledging 3. (I think) Believes in training rather than training just to minimum requirement then going shopping/playing football 4. Said in press conference batsmen should back themselves playing aggressive shots not worry about getting out... Rahane gets to 50 with reverse sweep. Out of the 7 4's he hit to get to 100 it included smash over mid off, reverse sweep and conventional sweep Indian batsmen often didn't play much in past. 5. (I think) is starting to encourage tailenders to contribute more with the bat than Dhoni was. End result: -Less draws, more results -Less 5 day games -Higher rate of scoring when compared with Dhoni era's non Sehwag matches -More fights. More fine's for sledging or send off's (eg. Ishant Sharma last game)

This is crass. Rahane has a lot of shots and he plays them once he's set. He's a very intelligent batsman. You should look at his innings at MCG or Lord's just to know that Kohli's junooni kaptaani has got nothing to do with this. Agree with the other points though.

This. What has to do it with captaincy ?

Nothing really. Some people want all the credit to go to VK - Rahane was already pretty aggressive before Kohli.

msd was also seemed to be aggressive initially but we know how we ended up. if we want todo well in tests we need to face either weaker teams or a stronger bowling ling up so much talk about aggression, but in the 2nd innings of the first test when we were in a tricky situation , our batsmen came out all guns blocking :hysterical:

Kohli has a better team and things are looking even more promising as Vijay, Ashwin, Rahane and Kohli himself are much more experienced now and will only get better. Between 2011-2015 Dhoni had a team that was either aging (2011-2013) or lacked experience(2013-2015). Now, the team that Dhoni has handed over to Kohli has quite a few players who have evolved and matured from Dhoni's days. Kohli would have fared worse with the team Dhoni had because aggression without right team composition never pays.

A lot depends on the results , some of these guys have a short memory . When we played in SC conditions we always looked good , lets not forget we where the no1 side for a while under Dhoni . Against better teams this so called "agression" will not work . we cannot be aggressive in Eng , SA and Aus with this team filled with either inexperienced batting or joke of pace bowlers . A 5 batsmen strategy we will struggle to cross 100 with jokers like Rohit and Saha coming in @5 and @6. less 5 day games ? :hysterical:

Finally some one . As weak as this Indian team is beating the current SL team is not an achievement , infact its embarrassing the way we lost the first one .

I am not a dhoni a fan but there is nothing changed in the approach. This team should have won against "this"Lankan team with Dhoni also.My hate for the word "aggression" is increasing day by day.

As for the OP I can direct you to a thousands of posts on ICF where Dhoni was endlessly critisized for giving fast bowlers short spells even in ODIs apparently all our bowlers got injured cos of his short spells , what your saying is exactly opposite that .

:hysterical: Aggression is being confused with "playing positive" or "determination" by this Indian team now. Their aggression was there to see for all during the first test. Scoring fast at the inopportune time may be aggression but it has nothing to do with playing for a win. Winning requires a playing strategy that addresses the match context. Aggression or defense is not what India wants - we want to play every match in a way that maximizes the probability of win. Eleven Afridis may make the scoring faster, but you can't win matches with that team. Winning requires a right balance of aggression, defense and planning, and playing according to the match situation.

We will see how he fares when he has some real competition. Dhoni set the bar so low in test captaincy that no one can possibly lower it any further. So it won't be worse than that.
