Gagging the Media? Are we China now? Target the messenger – Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s government has clamped down on channels, which telecast the Tehelka sting that showed collusion between Modi and the rioters during the 2002 post-Godhra riots. Moments after channels started beaming the expose, the state government swung into action. The District Magistrate of Ahmedabad, Dhananjay Dwivedi — who is also the District Election Officer — directed all cable networks not to show channels like CNN-IBN, IBN-7 and Aaj Tak. "An order issued by the Ahmedabad District Magistrate and District Election Officer Dhananjay Dwivedi, says: "From 7:30 pm onwards dated October 25, programmes like Tehelka-Aaj Tak Khulasa, Operation Kalank and Gujarat Ka Sach are being telecast on Aaj Tak and IBN7 depicting visuals and statements of people pertaining to 2002 communal riots. According to Clause five of the Cable TV Network Regulation no entity can broadcast or re-broadcast any programme, which is not as per programming code." Clause five basically pertains to censorship of programmes that are unsuitable for children. However, more than 24 hours after the expose, no political party has come forward to make an understandable issue of why the BJP wants to bury the expose. And it's not just the BJP that is worried. The Congress has fears too. Critics say that this is just testing the political waters for the political parties. Many of the revelations made in the expose have been in public domain for a while. Now, there are simply people admitting to their participation in the post-Godhra violence. The BJP has predictably enough, rejected the allegations against Modi and called Tehelka’s report a “sponsored sting operationâ€. BJP spokesperson Prakash Javedkar told CNN-IBN: “This is not investigative journalism but a sponsored sting operation. I deny the allegations, which will fall apart in a few days. A judicial probe will bring out the truth.†The Tehelka investigations have revealed nothing new. Most of what has been said is that which has been restricted to the realm of speculation and drawing-room conversation for a long time. And since many of these confessions have already been made to the Nanawati Commission, one wonders whether the expose will impact the BJP or Narendra Modi at all. Nevertheless, the sting has once again brought back memories of the fateful genocide in the state and ahead of the elections, one is but forced to wonder whether Narendra Modi should be held responsible for the 2002 Gujarat riots. This was the issue CNN-IBN’s Anubha Bhonsle discussed on Face The Nation with a team of experts. On the panel were Rajya Sabha MP Chandan Mitra; Executive Editor of Tehelka Sankarshan Thakur; Congress MP Sabarkantha Madhusudhan Mistry; and Congress Spokesperson Jayanthi Natrajan. The initial result showed that 70 per cent of those who voted in said that the Gujarat Chief Minister was indeed responsible for the 2002 riots while only 30 per cent rejected the view.

There are some things i realized quite late... Narendra Modi is not a cold-blooded murderer that some sections of the media portray him to be. But he is also not the blemishless Hero that some here are making him out to be. And just because some people like DR can dig up article after article by "unbiased" journalists like Swapan Dasgupta, and most us either dont have the time or the interest to counter what is being said in those articles, doesnt mean the truth is hidden. DR/Bossbhai seem to think just because most posters dont offer weighty counters to what they say, most of us are in general agreement to what they say. Nothing could be farther from the truth. If only i had the interest/time to spare, I would have spent hours digging judicial commission instituted to investigate the riots or so many other trusted newspaper articles. Unfortunately, I dont.

Nice excuse u have weaved there, so even if u can;t support ur baseless viewpoint still it has to be right because u don;t bother to ask questions whether ur views are right or not. I will repeat again counter any of u those seven points raised which is the leitmotif of every Modi character assassination campagin.. mere opinions won't cut.. Regarding riots: My point is clear in any part of the world if shg like Godhara happens post-godhara is bound to happen noone can stop it.. Freaking community participation in burnign people alive over religious chanting of Ram-naam and one expects population turns into Mahtama Gandhi that too a population which is 50% illiterate well one is day-dreaming I would say.. Modi or no Modi.. had it been congresis may be deat coutns wud have gone beyond 5000 no army wud have bene called ala sikh riots .. Itwas Modi who acted swiftly called army and situation was controlled within three days. We have sene how congressi do in similar situation in heart of new dlehi under nose of army cantonment..

And as much as I dont want to engage your guys on this, no less a person than the Chief Justice of India has said he has lost faith in the Govt of Gujrat.
