It doesn't need to turn into a spinning mamba for a spinner to be effective on D4/D5.  By that time, even overseas tracks will offer enough grip to get some turn, and then if the team can create pressure with the scoreboard and game situation, no reason why a spinner can't be effective.

 

 This is one area where Ash has to improve.  Make excuses all you want, but he has to wear Johannesburg and Jamaica on his head.  Don't get me wrong - Ash is a match winner and an amazing bowler - much better today than Jo'burg.  But great bowlers find a way to break through on dead pitches given a platform.  And he had one in Jamaica that went a-begging.  Of course, Mishra went AWOL on D5 in Jamaica, and that didn't help.  Who knows, given one timely wicket early enough in the day, it could have been very different.  But none of that matters now...
