apocalypse Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I am sorry if this is very off topic. Please delete it mods if it is. I am considering buying a 42" LCD TV. I have never bought a LCD tv before. I have seen good reviews of Syntax Olevia 242T. Any personal recommendations would be appreciated. Thank You
Rajiv Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I was in Marketing before, I will NEVER EVER go for No-Name brands, I dealt with lot of them and I have a theory, buy once buy good I research lot of stuff before buying things and like I said, I was in electronics before. I would go for a Sharp Aquos or a Sony XBR Model
apocalypse Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 Olevia is by LG. I would also not by no-name brands. Sony is just out of scope for my budget
Ram Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I think both Yoda and Dial have LCD tvs.. you could ask them..
Rajiv Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Doesnt everyone have LCDs now? at least thats what I thought I bought a SONY and then exchanged it for a Aquos. It works great
apocalypse Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 Doesnt everyone have LCDs now? at least thats what I thought naa I am still living grad student life :D
sgusa Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Samsung has many good offerings. LG is quite good too. Or if you want the price range a bit lower, take a look at Toshiba or Westinghouse. They have good solid LCDs too.
apocalypse Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 thanks...any good site for reviews of LCD tvs?
novpj Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 cnet.com is good. I think Samsung is the highest rated LCD in 42" category. Dont buy a Sony - Sony buys LCd screens from Samsung.
Rajiv Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Samsung has issue with their sound board Toshiba doesn't have good contrast ratios LG is medium quality Cnet reviews are too commercialized You want advanced talk www.avsforum.com www.digitalhome.ca
apocalypse Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 Thanks rajeev I will look at those sites
gator Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 samsung, sony and sharp are the top 3 brands... IMO, Sony is too pricey and Samsung offers similar performance at a slightly lower price... if u r looking for something much cheaper and a pretty decent performance, go for Vizio in Costco... nothing can beat tht price and a pretty decent TV.... Vizio is the number 1 LCD tv selling brand in US by a large margin and it is for good reason... maximum bang for the buck.... personally, i have a samsung, but my friend went for Vizio and i was pretty impressed.... he used the extra money to buy a blu-ray player...
