The Outsider Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 1) How come a solid Indian batting team couldnt play out 2 sessions and 70 odd overs. Sure we have two horrendous decision against us but surely one can expect other 8 players to fire? Because you are playing the best team in the world in their backyard on a last day wicket, have mentally already been drained by one umpiring howler after another and accusations of racism against your team, and on top of that two top order batsmen, one of them in the form of his life are sawed off.

On the same pitch we have Anil Kumble as 2nd highest scorer of the innings, and also the batsman who played the 2nd most number of deliveries. Kumble in effect playedx out 20 overs out of 70 by himself! And surely you can not tell me that a team deserves to win/draw a game when their number 8 batsman plays 30% of the total number of overs. xxx

Australia's first innings was built on lower order contributions. Do they not deserve to win either. It always looked like that the new ball gripping on a breaking surface would take a few top order wickets and the middle and lower middle order would have to save the test against a softer ball.

Of course they didnt. Is that a news to you? Aussies did NOT win this match, India lost it. I was watching the game and I did not see a lot of tricks by Aussie bowlers. Symonds and Clarke were hardly bowling fantastic. Indian batsmen were done in by their shot selection and bad umpiring. Yes if you would say the pressure of playing against worlds best team with bad umpires went against them I am still gonna find merit in it but there is no way you can convince me that Aussie played top notch game yesterday. Coming to Kumble. Anytime you are playing for a draw, and it was amply evident by the time Ponting declared that only fair result was a draw, you play out the time. Simple. And had Sachin, Jaffer, Yuvraj, Dhoni played the amount of overs Kumble played(20) we would not be having this conversation right now. xxx

WTH is wrong with you people?.. stick with us dudes.. har baat pe add jana zaroori he kya?

kabira Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Its quite clear to me Aussies would have scored around 300 in first innings. India would have lead around 220 odd Aussies at best would have scored 400 runs. (hussey was caught behind) India should have won the game and chased down 180 odd...
Lurker Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 and what is your point? hogg did the same thing in their 1st inning? soo wat? infact.. he would have played highest number of balls if symond was given out correctly.. Made my point already. If you can not understand that, it is not my problem is it now? WTH is wrong with you people?.. stick with us dudes.. har baat pe add jana zaroori he kya? Kya add jaana? Stick with you? For what?? To cover the great players who couldnt play 10 overs?? Gimme a break. Why dont you criticize where criticism is fair and valid?
Anakin Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 No, to cover the great players who came close to saving the match despite the worst possible umpiring. But as usual that doesn't make any difference to you, as you'll only focus on one aspect.
Lurker Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Its quite clear to me Aussies would have scored around 300 in first innings. India would have lead around 220 odd Aussies at best would have scored 400 runs. (hussey was caught behind) India should have won the game and chased down 180 odd... That version I can agree to. And this version has been made by many journalists too, including Peter Roebuck. Had the umpiring been even remotely acceptable on the opening days, or had replays been used to give embattled umpires a chance, they(India) might perchance have won the contest but that will forever remain in the land of conjecture However that is a conjecture indeed and it doesnt take away from the fact that Indian batting in 2nd innings was insipid apart from Gangs, Dravid and Kumble, atleast two of which were hard done by. Just to recollect. Noone is supporting umpires here. No. What I am wondering is how come Indian team didnt play out 70 overs. Dont mix that issue with umpiring. Indeed if India had not lost 3 wickets in last over it would have been a draw. It was that close. xxx
kabira Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Lurker, in every innings, some player get in and some don't. We had to bat out 70 overs..and it was responsibility of two our top order to stick and bat most of the overs. I see Dravid was doin that and Ganguly was ably supporting him..both got howlers.....so how on the earth we were to save the game.. In Aussie innings it was only two batters, Symo and Hogg scoring in first innings In second innings it was Hayden and Hussey...

Why dont you criticize where criticism is fair and valid? in any iinning you will see some players scoring big while others fail.. all 4 of our big guns played big in 1st inning.. Dravid and SG were in the good touch in 2nd and both were given out wrongly.. soo now your point is i need to blame SRT, VVS for defeats and not umpires, cheats ? wah re teri fitrat.. is it because seniors are played very well than you expected?

You are playing on 5th day with 2 sessions to go. You know the only result possible in 70 overs is a draw(cant see India chasing 300 plus on last day in 70 overs). What would be your plan of action?? To play the kind of shot that Jaffer played? Or SRT? Put it this way - All things being equal, had Australia been trying to play out 70 overs do you see them bat the way Indians did? xxx

Spot on! There is only one way to rubbish the seniors, and he chose it predictably. Thank god yuva did jackshi.t, otherwise it'd have been even more brutal.

We are talking of 2nd innings here. We are talking of lasting ONLY 2 sessions here. We are talking of playing out ONLY 70 odd overs here. We are talking of shielding 6 wickets from likes of Symonds and Clarke. Take away Dravid but we are still talking of shielding 5 wickets. We are talking of batsmen playing out the amount of overs Kumble did. Aayee baat samajh mein. is it because seniors are played very well than you expected? Yes of course. Your mental bankrupcy could muster only a cheap shot. Yes I wanted the seniors to fail and India to lose. Remind me what Dhondy said about Indian fans being worst and all.
The Outsider Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Put it this way - All things being equal, had Australia been trying to play out 70 overs do you see them bat the way Indians did? Rewind to Calcutta '01.
