CC1981 Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Steady on Doc ... any chance of going through the cross-questioning or is that not allowed ? How about you finish your turn in the chair first, champ. I am waiting. What is this tendency of yours to run away from cross-questioning and then eagerly wait your chance to cross-question every Tom Dick and Harry who has a contrary opinion to your's ?? A bout of hypocritis perhaps ?
Anakin Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Anyways, have fun self-loathing geniuses, forgive us boors
Lurker Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 And what are fans like you doing to avoid those mistakes ? Do you think vehemently drooling on the old skool ideology really helps our cause ? I am not saying that you are responsible but just for the sake of discussion. And let me ask what are fans like YOU doing to avoid these mistakes? Do you seriously think ICC, or BCCI, gives a flying eff about how Bossbhai thinks about Bucknor? Get real. What fans like me are doing is to keep this discussion - umpires vs technology - a sane one. We can see merits in both sides of the argument and if we are convinced then sure technology can have its way. Unlike you who has a "my way or highway". This is not the first time this has happened nor will it be the last time. What you dont get is registering mere token protests makes diddly squat difference to these bozo's. Then address it correctly. What YOU need to realize is that age-old saying - Dont put emphasis on sound bites in your argument, pay emphasis on your argument. I would be interested in seeing what you have done to convince those against technology other than getting nasty and rhetorical. This OP is very much evident of what you think of those against your viewpoint, and you have admitted it further yourself. If you want more of a support then try putting those critisim(or technology) to rest or else you will be pretty much where you are right now. xxx

Lurker Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 We played good enough for 3 days and should have never been in position to save the game...so Lurker lets not talk about that we did not bat 70 overs.. Yes I will. To give an analogy, if I am part of an IT project that has time slump due to users, that still does not explain why I would eff up the end product. And yes you can say my work is different from cricket but I would expect billionaire professionals to do exactly what they are paid to do. Just as I expect the umpires to do their job. Just because the umpires screw up doesnt mean Indian batsmen could too.

kabira Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 >Just because the umpires screw up doesnt mean Indian batsmen could too. what man, you agree with umpire screw up and you are saying that each and every batsman should have played well...Does not happen in every inning...our two best top order batters were Dravid and Ganguly and both got shafted... Innings are always built on one or two major partnerships..These two with Dhony and Kumble should have saved the game easily.. Don't you see they fought till the end even after top two batters got shaftd
veer Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 I think he is talking about me.. doc sahab.. to be honest, I dont have good grip on english otherwise I would be arguing you in longer than one line also.. lekin why worried about PP so much and I was right ehh??

Lurker Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Even if your code was being repeatedly wiped out by someone malicious? It doesnt work that way, does it Shwetabh? The way it would work is that my code will have to be Tested by me(and my team) and then by a set of Testers. Generally speaking of course. Now we have all been in the situation where the Testers are not very good. Or maybe they are. Does that give me the right to create software with bugs?? I dont see it that way. Again I am not asking Indian team to play out 6 sessions and 180 overs, I am asking 2 sessions and 70 overs and I would expect them to play that yes. xxx
observer1 Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 I can bet it is a cold miserable dull rainy evening in England, and DocDhondy is mighty bored. He is also annoyed that SRT failed, and that India failed. He wants to apportion blame - and on a bright summer evening would have lambasted Bucknor and Benson. On an evening like this however, the mischievous bit of the brain plays second fiddle to the amygdala or whatever it is called. Tis the weather folks - he has a serious case of Seasonal Affective Disorder. Dont worry, he will be fine come March.
donkey Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 its rather ridiculous to compare a dozen wrong decisions that went against us, with some one odd decision that went in india's favor in the past......u can digest a bad decision or two as part of the game..but if a whole bunch of them go against just one team.....and the opponent team's chief destroyer alone is reprieved 5 times....shoulders are bound to drop...you can try to get the same batsman out only so many times had umpiring been fair....India would have easily dominated this game....not to mention had it been ozzies on the recieving end....and the bad decisions were 9-2 in our favor..India would have won this game with a day to spare

The product hasn't gone to any testers, let's say. You are developing it and each morning you log on, you find something substantial has been wiped out. How will you still deliver on time? Again I am not asking Indian team to play out 6 sessions and 180 overs, I am asking 2 sessions and 70 overs and I would expect them to play that yes. And they would have done it, had the umpires not screwed it up yet again ie. wiped out code. On a last day wicket it's difficult to get in, and both batsmen sawed off were well set and looking comfortable. I know it's a message board and hardly anyone changes opinions on it due to some vague ego issues even after being presented convincing arguments, so I'll quit with this having made my points. But remember, a team like Australia could not bat 70 overs in Calcutta despite not getting any umpiring howlers.
Lurker Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Lurks Iam a firm believer in "Janta ki awaaz" you might ridicule it all you want but trust me if we understand the concept of unity we wouldnt find ourselves in such sad situations. Ask yourself why dont some other nations ever get into such situations ? Simple reason is they dont take things lying down and that mentality permeates through every living soul ... us Indians are a different breed .... nowhere else will you find a breed that will try to spread the guilt on its own people after what happened in Sydney less than 12 hours ago. Sad. No dont put me on that guilt trip. The concept of unity doesnt mean to stand up for everything, right or wrong. The issue here is two faced: a) Poor umpiring. b) Poor batting. I say categorically I am with you on a). But I am NOT going to shirk away from b) either. I dont want to sound repeatative but I would expect my team to play out 70 overs. My team is not BD or Zimboks, it is INDIA and yes we are more than capable of surviving 2 sessions. Have you ever produced any evidence to further your case ? I dont think so ... ? Why should I just accept what you say ? What evidence? We have discussed where traditional umpiring has its strength - close lbw calls, bad-pad catches, quick no-balls etc - and where technology has its strength - line calls like run outs, stumping etc etc. I remember clearly arguing on those lines but for you it has always been technology or none. And no you havent convinced me either why technology is fool proof. Then again I am not going about opening threads ad-hominem am I?
prince40 Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 the likes of dhondy, cc and lurker r probably pakis, but just incase ther r indians they should be stripped of their citizenship

You are developing it and each morning you log on, you find something substantial has been wiped out. How will you still deliver on time? Okay in that case the very first time I see it I will probably think it was my mistake. Second time I will see it I will make a backup to cross verify. Third time I will verify it with backup and then register my case promptly. If it continues and nothing is done I would typically raise a Red Flag. And they would have done it, had the umpires not screwed it up yet again ie. wiped out code. On a last day wicket it's difficult to get in, and both batsmen sawed off were well set and looking comfortable. But remember, a team like Australia could not bat 70 overs in Calcutta despite not getting any umpiring howlers. I dont buy last day wicket theory. Aussies on same wicket played an entire session and scored 120 odd runs in 23 odd overs@5. So yes if the pitch was good enough to last an entire session with RR at 5 I would expect Indian batsmen to last 2 more session on it. xxx
