News 8th Jan: Team may not play Canberra, Bucknor out, Madugalle in as "co-referee"

It doesnt matter really. The Bhajji incident is just a small fish in a big pond. In the last 10 years, i don't remember a single series in which aussies get more bad decisions against them than for them. It wasn't Bucknor and benson who always adjudged them....wasnt it bowden who gave sehwag bat before wicket? The umpiring standards are so low and biased (unconsciously) towards aussies that no matter whos umpiring, they will still get most of the marginal decisions in their favor. Even in all this big media circus, not a lot of LBW shouts are mentioned. People are overlooking them. Ponting, Gilly and hayden are all big LBW candidates but seldom do they get LBW. Why isn't anyone concentrating on that? The Bhajji incident only played a part in overshadowing the real issue here. The real issue isnt the abt Aus cheating (which they do a lot), their lying or bucknor and bensons incompetency. The real issue is the double standards the ICC and its employees follow. Bump ball catch......no talk of it. Starring at umpires......nothing. Overappealing......again nothing. Symmonds words Vs Sachin.....Symmonds won. Marginal LBW shout.....Aussies favor. stumping chance.......3rd umpire not even called The list goes on. This was a perfect time to address all that but unfortunately now its gonna be lost with this announcement.

Bhajji to play at Perth Now, Harbhajan has been allowed to play in Perth Test pending hearing on his appeal. The ICC informed that Appeal Commissioner on Harbhajan issue to named in 24 hours. "The ICC has a robust process of dealing with Code of Conduct issues and that process will now run its natural course," said Mr Speed. Harbhajan was allegedly involved in a verbal duel with Australia's Andrew Symonds after which Symonds had lodged complaint with ICC. Also Sri Lanka's Ranjan Madugalle to join Mike Proctor as co-refree for the Perth Test. ICC has said that robust code of conduct process will run its full course.

Good news regarding the umpires, as clearly they more than Aussies or Harbhajan are root cause of problems in this test, which began with blatant error when Symonds given not out caught behind wicket in 1st innings. Hopefully Bhajji can play the next 2 tests pending the outcome of his appeal hearing. He should do well in Perth, and clearly has the wood on Ponting. If only Anil can get him to keep his mouth quiet . Why not put a microphone on all players, which would show how much verbal sledging the Aussies do and hopefully shut them up, as clearly Symonds provoked Harbhajan to say what he said? Also, why not use technology to a) get correct decisions so match results are not in doubt b) deter over-appealing (for example which led along with bad umpiring to Dravid dismissal in 2nd innings) I think that there should be fines for sledging and over-appealing, and most of all there should be consistency. Clarke should have been fined for blatant dissent in the second innings, but was not in my view because of Mike Procter's tolerance of Yuvi's similar dissent in the Melbourne test. Why is Mr Procter's position in this series not under review, given his controversial series? Why not install Madugalle as match referee for remainder of series?

What were the indian Players's stand? did they want the ban to be suspended for the tour to go on or did they want the ban to be completely overturned and Harbhajan proved-not guilty-of racial offence, for the tour to go ahead? will the BCCI now try to convince the players to carry on , because SB is out of the series. But that still leaves Mike Procter who banned Bhajji with out any credible evidence, just on majority-hear say? will the tour continue , now?

Anyone read this joke? But Speed insisted that the ICC was not backing down in the face of India's protests. "It is accepted that Steve, and his on-field colleague Mark Benson, did not have good games by their very high standards," he said. "We feel that given the added pressure and attention Steve's presence would have at the third Test, it is better for the match and for Steve himself if he does not take part. "It is important to stress that Steve has not been replaced due to any representations made by any team or individuals. "The ICC remains the sole body responsible for the appointment of umpires and no team has the right to object to any appointment." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/cricket/7174992.stm :hysterical:

BCCI say tour to go on http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/01/08/2134406.htm Posted 1 hour 11 minutes ago r215311_835872.jpg The ICC bent to India's key demand by replacing Jamaican umpire Steve Bucknor. (AAP: Paul Miller)

Indian cricket officials say the tour of Australia will continue, after the sport's governing body stepped in to defuse a crisis over the second Test in Sydney. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will make a formal announcement after a meeting later tonight. But BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla has confirmed the board has made the decision to continue playing, and advised the team members at their Sydney hotel. The International Cricket Council (ICC) bent to India's key demand by replacing Jamaican umpire Steve Bucknor with New Zealand's Billy Bowden for the third Test starting in Perth on January 16. India had been demanding his sacking over a series of errors in the second Test, which Australia won by 122 runs. The ICC also decided to appoint a code of conduct commissioner to adjudicate on India's appeal against a ban on spinner Harbhajan Singh for alleged racist remarks against Andrew Symonds.

http://content-ind.cricinfo.com/ausvind/content/current/story/329742.html The bit that has especially offended them is a line in the document which says, "I believe that one group was telling the truth". The players felt Procter had alleged they were lying and they didn't think there was any fairness to the verdict. According to the players, the wording in the two-page document was ambiguous and left a scope for counter questions. If Procter had mentioned this, then it will hurt, especially for SRT.

Brad Hogg has been charged for abusing a player...and its a level 3 offence... and news from Delhi is coming that..Tour will go on... no news on Bhajji ban..till now or the condition of no play till the ban is lifted.... BUT the appeal commissioner will have to give his decision after 7 days of appeal...so in all probability we will see the final decision on bhajji before the match..
