WTC could change the test selection dynamics

If my understanding is correct, every game (no dead rubbers from a points' perspective) that we play in WTC is important. To create a fair chance at winning the title, we have to win every game in India, a strength for us. Therefore,

  • Gone are the days where we used to see some of the tests in Ind as practise games
  • How we groom the youngsters gains even more importance. Away series where we are more likely to lose points could become a viable option to groom youngsters vs in Ind where we would not like to give points away
  • Carrying quota picks in squad and having a queue system where the quota pick is ahead could turn dangerous from the team strength and balance perspective

Given the above,

  • The Aus series and the one vs Zim in March are even more important from the perspective of working to get our combination spot on
  • In the current test vs WI, Ind lost the opportunity to try some young players

BCCI and selectors would need to pick up their game. Team Management would need to be more cutting edge in its thinking process

Given that the selection process in the lead up to arguably the biggest prize in cricket (the World Cup) has been a shambles at times, it's very optimistic to think anything dramatic will happen for a test championship.

If I am not wrong, IPL is supposed to change its schedule from 2020 to not play games in the April-May period .... If that is accurate, it could help to drive the importance of WTC to the babus
