Farming the strike with Current Indian Tail

Recommended Posts

2nd ODI only confirmed that our tail is one of the worst in the world. It is almost like 99.9% of team contribution has to come from top 7 batsmen. Forget about scoring runs. They are not even capable of sticking around. It is a challenge for top or middle order batsman to farm the strike. Not many in our current line up can farm the strike well. Exposing them even to one or two  balls can be a risky.

Imagine Kapil dev batting with this tail and India is 17/5 later 76/7. 175 would have never happened. In many instances guys like Agarkar, Joshi, Zaheer, Irfan, kumble, Bhaji even Srinath helped us win matches. Jadeja's cameo against Pakistan in 1996 world cup came while batting with Kumble, Srinath. Few years back India was 29/5 later 102/6 against Pakistan. Ashwin and Dhoni added 125 for 7th wicket.  Bhuvi and Dhoni added 100 for 8th wicket in SL. Even Praveen and Bhajji added over 80 runs for 8th wicket against Australia.

Essentially India's top 7 has to bat right till 50th over. They cannot afford any collapse anywhere top or middle. Not sure what the solution would be. But i have to say guys like Kuldeep who seems to have some batting skill should learn to survive while batting with a top order. India could very well compromise their bowling line up as well because of this. Ideally Shami should be ahead of Bhuvi. But Bhuvi's batting might force them to drop Shami something i don't want to happen.
