Re: Crucial BCCI meet today If only they took actually serving the cricket playing and watching public as seriously...their website is an EMBARRASSMENT... It could potentially be the portal through which talent through out India can be encouraged and groomed but instead what we have is three never updated pages of FLUFF... mostly about PLAYER Star Status... Greg may have been right about his vision for improving cricket in the country... LONG TERM...but for that he would have to be in Sharad Pawar's chair and not fight an election for at least a DECADE... As a coach...he was in the WRONG job...

Re: Crucial BCCI meet today The meeting started at 10.00 am IST according to NDTV. And by 12.00 Greg Chappell had left the meeting. He didn't talk to the media even as they tried to approach him. Why did he storm out of the meeting like that?

Re: Crucial BCCI meet today Now I get the news that Chappell has taken responsibility of the WC debacle partly. Pawar, Shah and other have praised his work and vision and want him to assist in the improvement of indian cricket in the long term. The post suggested to Chappell is that of NCA consultant. Excellent I say. Only yesterday I was saying how Rod Marsh had helped in the growth of English cricket as the their NCA chairman. If BCCI tries to be professional, I hope we can gain a lot here.

Re: Crucial BCCI meet today here u go... Chappell can help our long-term plans' - BCCI Cricinfo staff April 6, 2007 Sharad Pawar feels that Greg Chappell still has plenty to offer for the betterment of Indian cricket ? AFP At the end of the first leg of the BCCI meeting to review India's debacle in the World Cup, the board issued a statement recognising Greg Chappell's commitment and seeking his continued assistance to Indian cricket, though not in the capacity of coach. Chappell himself has decided not to fly out of India tonight, as earlier planned, increasing the speculation that he may accept an assignment working with juniors or at the academy. A statement read out by BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah said that Chappell made a detailed presentation on his experiences with the Indian team over the last 22 months, pointing out the team's shortcomings and suggesting measures to improve Indian cricket. "As the coach, he too felt that he was partly responsible for the poor performance. He emphasized the need to promote youngsters and concentrate on fitness and strength for the team to do well in fielding and running between the wickets," Shah said. He then said that Sharad Pawar, the BCCI president, was of the opinion that Chappell "could be associated with Indian cricket and help us implement our long term plans though he's no longer the India coach." In his report, Chappell "confined himself to issues and did not make any reference to individual players", Shah said. Sanjay Jagdale, the team manager for the World Cup, sought to explain the performance in the tournament and was of the opinion that the entire team, particularly the batsmen, failed in the matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. "He too was of the opinion that the youngsters should be inducted to improve our cricket," Shah said. Rahul Dravid, the captain, told the committee that the team left for the World Cup with high hopes but failed to do well. He accepted responsibility of behalf of the team for the poor performance which led to the early exit from the World Cup. Dravid offered suggestions for the improvement of Indian cricket, Shah said. Dilip Vengsarkar, the chairman of selectors, felt that the team did not perform to potential. He was of the opinion that the BCCI should strengthen domestic cricket and create a pool of 25-30 cricketers from which the Indian team could be selected. Chappell, who had announced on Wednesday that he would not seek an extension to his contract as the Indian coach, left the meeting at 11.50am IST waving and smiling at the media assembled outside the stadium. Two hours later, Rahul Dravid made his exit as well.
