DesiChap
Posted online: Friday, April 06, 2007 at 1857 hours IST Varanasi, April 6: Sourav Ganguly can once again become a good captain if he is handed back the responsibility of leading the Indian cricket team, according to his wife Dona. "He (Sourav) had done a gone job as Team India's skipper for five years (2000-2005) and he will do a good job in the event of being handed back the captaincy. Although it was for the BCCI to decide," she said. Dona, who is a celebrated Odissi dancer, however made lighter of India's World Cup debacle in the leadership of Rahul Dravid, saying win or loss was a part of the game. "Like all our countrymen we are also disappointed with India's early exit from the World Cup. Let us all accept the fact that the team failed in the quadrennial event as victory or loss is the part of the game," she said. The danceuse, who is in the temple city to perform at the annual cultural festival at the Sankat Mochan temple, blamed India's premature ouster on bad luck. "The boys did not have luck in the mega-event which resulted on them being knocked out in the group stage itself." On Ganguly's consistent performance since his to the team, she said her husband always had faith in his abilities. "Sourav did not give up after being dropped from the national team in late 2005 and always believed that there was much cricket left in him which enabled him to get back his place in the team," she said. Dona, however, sought to downplay the reports of spat between Ganguly and Greg Chappell, who was then coach of Indian team, saying neither did she have any idea in this regard nor was she ever interested to find out the matter from her husband at any point of time.
