When Dravid had to play ?messenger?

When Dravid had to play ?messenger? - After the Wolrd Cup dabecle, players stand cornered LOKENDRA PRATAP SAHI Mumbai: Nobody may confirm, but there apparently were phases in recent times when captain Rahul Dravid had to act as a ?messenger? between coach Greg Chappell and most players. Sounds unbelievable, but it reportedly did happen. The complete breakdown in communication meant Dravid, an introvert himself, had to face the music. It?s anybody?s guess just how much it affected him as a person and as a cricketer. ?Dravid has come through a very tough period,? is what somebody in the know told The Telegraph on Saturday, the day after the World Cup review. Meanwhile, Dravid hasn?t only been backing Virender Sehwag both inside and outside selection meetings ? he stood by all his players during the review. ?At least one official specifically asked about the attitude of certain players, but Dravid insisted there had been nothing wrong with anybody?s behaviour,? revealed a well-placed source. The gentleman added: ?Throughout, Dravid kept saying if anybody had to be faulted, it would be him... His attitude enhanced the already high respect he enjoys...? Dravid has kept the captaincy and, on the face of it, shouldn?t have problems with stand-in cricket manager (coach) Ravi Shastri. There?s enormous repair work to be done and, so, their task is cut out.

Re: When Dravid had to play ?messenger? Well he is keeping totally to the agreement (which i don't approve) that the players made not to blame each other and point fingers. He needs to atleast talk about specific players and their chutiyagiri (if any) to the board.

Re: When Dravid had to play ?messenger? Thats the sign of a true leader. A leader will never throw a team member under the bus but will instead provide feedback in private. Given that he has been clearly announced as a captain for next 3 series + given that a captain will have more influence on team selection now, the other players will listen to him.

Re: When Dravid had to play ?messenger? This is cultural thing. 99.999999999999999999999% of indian folks would say exactly the same thing. We have got this masochistic predilection in us always wiling to take the blame for everyone else. Sounds good in spiritual text but if u look at this exercise with the intention of pin-pointing the malice then dravid has done the perfect job of hiding it from the prying eyes. Only saving grace shuld be and hopefully would be from this exercise is that when players come to know he has shielded them all they will be kind of obligated and will go ut of their way to serve their captain spectacularly in future. Well this is my hope. Come on the guy saved all ur a$$es now be a good sport and push urselves little harder for captain's sake.
