When the Romans destroyed Jerusalem most of the native Jews left, then eventually Muslims from Arabia took over, then Christian crusaders from Europe who killed and expelled the Arabs and Jews, then some 'arabs' from Syria held it, then Christians then Turks. Each time someone new invaded Jerusalem they usually expelled or slaughtered the people living there. Why not give Istanbul to the Greeks? After all they are the 'natives'.
