Nehra for Mumbai Indians, Mishra for Delhi Ashish Nehra, the left-arm fast bowler, has signed up with the Indian Premier League's Mumbai franchise. More... Nehra, who last played for India in September 2005, didn't play for Delhi in this season's Ranji Trophy after suffering an ankle injury and, though reportedly fit for the Ranji one-day tournament, which began in February, didn't feature in any of the matches. He joins a fast-bowling attack that already has Shaun Pollock, Lasith Malinga, Dilhara Fernando and Mumbai's Abhishek Nayar. Nehra will be expected to play a key role for Mumbai Indians, given that only four overseas players can feature in the playing XI. Injuries to Malinga and Fernando, which put them out of Sri Lanka's tour to the West Indies, also puts them in doubt for the start of the IPL. Malinga is suffering from a knee injury, while Fernando is recovering from ankle surgery. Meanwhile, the Delhi Daredevils have signed a second specialist spinner, after Daniel Vettori, in Amit Mishra, the Haryana legspinner. Mishra was one of the leading wicket-takers in the Ranji Trophy one-dayers, with 11 wickets from five games at 17.45. Mishra, who played three ODIs for India in 2003, was also Haryana's leading wicket-taker in the Ranji Trophy Plate League, with 27 scalps at 15.29 in five matches. New Zealand's tour of England will result in Vettori missing most of the Delhi Daredevils matches, so Mishra will be a specialist spin option for Delhi.

Mumbai CCI not to host IPL matches Since its members wouldn't be able to watch the matches, the club has decided not to host the matches, reports Amol Karhadkar. More... CCI not to host IPL matches Amol Karhadkar, Hindustan Times Mumbai, March 14, 2008 First Published: 20:52 IST(14/3/2008) Last Updated: 22:11 IST(14/3/2008) THAT WANKHEDE stadium will host the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches became a certainty on Friday with the Cricket Club of India (CCI) being rejected as a choice of the venue by the Mumbai franchise owners. Wankhede Stadium will now host the 10 ties to be played in Mumbai, including the semifinals and final, alongwith the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Mumbai franchise owners Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) have rejected the CCI, according to a club official, following a disagreement over availability of a couple of enclosures for the club members. It may be recalled that the Hindustan Times had reported on Thursday that the CCI is set to dropped by the RIL due to ticketing issues. This invariably means that the Wankhede and the Dr DY Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai will jointly host the 10 matches, including the semifinals and the final, that are scheduled to be played in Mumbai. On Friday, Kamaljeet Rajpal, the chief executive officer of CCI, said at a press conference that the RIL have conveyed their inability to play matches at the CCI. "After they (RIL) approached us in February to seek the availability of the ground, we had offered them the stadium without providing the complete Club House and the Members' Childern Enclosure," Rajpal said. "They wrote to us yesterday evening that they don't agree with the conditions." CCI president Raj Singh Dungarpur said that according to the CCI rules "every club member has a right to watch all events from the Club House without paying any fees". "I would like to clarify that there is no conflict between the CCI, the franchise and the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association)," Dungarpur said. "But the executive committee has unanimously decided that if the members are not allowed entry into the Club House free of charge, the CCI will not host any match." While no RIL official was available for a reaction, sources in the MCA told HT that they will make both the grounds officially available on Saturday. "We will write to them on Saturday and make both, the Wankhede and the Dr DY Patil stadium, available," a source said. "Now it's up to them to split the seven home matches between the two stadiums."

Ronchi joins Tendulkar in Mumbai HARD-hitting West Australian Luke Ronchi will soon be batting alongside Sachin Tendulkar after becoming the latest Australian to sign up for the Indian Premier League. More... Ronchi joins Tendulkar in Mumbai March 26, 2008 AFTER Australia battled all summer to overcome the Indians, a surprise phone call has turned international hopeful Luke Ronchi into one. West Australian wicketkeeper Ronchi has become the latest Australian to be bought up by the Indian Premier League, with the Mumbai Indians franchise investing in the 26 year-old's big hitting for the tournament staring on April 18. And with Ronchi going from Perth's first grade final last weekend to the possibility of opening the batting with Mumbai skipper Sachin Tendulkar next month, the New Zealand-born gloveman was still in shock over his IPL call-up. "It is amazing to get the opportunity to go over and play some really good cricket, so it should be a lot of fun," Ronchi said. "I was not sure because I had not actually looked into it all that much, but then I got a phone call – which was a very good phone call to get. "It was surprising, but it has turned out pretty well." That could be seen as an understatement, given Ronchi will not only line up alongside Tendulkar, but also share a dressing room with Harbhajan Singh, Sanath Jayasuriya, Lasith Malinga and Shaun Pollock. "There are some good players there, and some good experience to tap into," Ronchi said. "They have played a heap more cricket, so it will be a good learning experience during games. "And there may be an opportunity to open the batting with Sachin in front of his home crowd in Mumbai – that would be the stuff dreams are made of." Despite the massive profile the tournament has engendered across the globe, Ronchi did not think a strong showing in the tournament would enhance his chances of an international call-up. "Obviously I am not expecting to play every game ... there will be a rotation thing going on," Ronchi said. "I don't think what happens out there will have much of a say what happens here in Australia." An Australian A and Chairman's XI representative, Ronchi's domestic records would have caught the eye of Mumbai and Indian Twenty20 coach Lalchand Rajput. Last season, Ronchi broke the record for the fastest one-day domestic hundred in Australian cricket, scoring his maiden one-day ton off only 56 deliveries. And after another blazing ton on the Australia A tour of Pakistan, Ronchi wrote himself into the record books again, scoring one of the fastest centuries in Australian first class history. His ton from 51 balls against Queensland, included 11 sixes, with his second fifty coming from just 11 balls and taking just eight minutes longer than Hookes' 34-ball ton scored in at Adelaide in 1982. Jayasuriya hoping to impress in IPL Former Sri Lanka opener Sanath Jayasuriya, currently out of the country's limited-overs' side, is eager to make a mark for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, staring April 18, and stake claim for a berth in the national team. Jayasuriya hoping to impress in IPL April 09, 2008 17:10 IST Former Sri Lanka [images] opener Sanath Jayasuriya, currently out of the country's limited-overs' side, is eager to make a mark for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, staring April 18, and stake claim for a berth in the national team. "I am looking forward to playing in the tournament and helping Mumbai Indians win the title. It will be a great thing in my career to open with Sachin (Tendulkar), the best player in the world. I am really happy to open with him," said Jayasuriya, in a teleconference from Sri Lanka. "I met up with him in Hobart during the one-day series in Australia and discussed the IPL. I always love to play for my country, but this is different, with all teams having a mixture of players from various countries. I will give my best for Mumbai," said the former Sri Lanka captain. Saying the Mumbai squad is strong, he pointed out that apart from himself and Tendulkar, the team has retired South African all-rounder Shaun Pollock [images], Dilhara Fernando and young Indian batsman Robin Uthappa. "We have quite a few good players in Pollock, Uthappa, Loots Bosman (of South Africa). It's going to be exciting, as we would be playing against other Sri Lankan players, like Kumar (Sangakkara), Mahela (Jayawardene), (Lasith) Malinga and (Muthiah) Murali(tharan)," he said. Jayasuriya, dropped from Sri Lanka's one-day team playing in the West Indies [images], maintained that he is fit and working hard for the IPL. "I am young too. I am very fit and working hard. I want to perform with bat and ball," said the 38-year-old marauder from Matara, in Sri Lanka. "It (Twenty20) may be a young man's game but I have worked hard. I will try and make sure Mumbai wins (the title)," said Jayasuriya, who played a crucial role in his country winning the 1996 World Cup. The veteran batsman did not favour a blanket ban on sledging as being demanded by the Indian cricket board, but wants umpires to take a more active role to keep it in check. "We are all humans and you can't stop the chatter [between rival players] completely. You have to handle it carefully and the umpires are there [for this purpose]," said the scorer of nearly 7,000 Test runs. Jayasuriya, whose record of 411 ODIs has since been overtaken by Tendulkar, was disappointed that Sri Lanka could not clinch the recent Test series in the West Indies. "We played pretty well in Guyana but could not win the series, losing the second Test in Trinidad. Four early wickets cost us dear and this is an area we need to look into," he felt. The injury-prone Fernando, expected to open the Mumbai Indians attack with Pollock, said it is great to play with Tendulkar and the other top players. "It's great to play with Sachin and other international players. I have almost recovered fully [from injury]. I can do a lot for Mumbai," he said. Six youngsters of the team, including a few Ranji Trophy players, said they would gain a lot of experience playing alongside or against leading international players. Mumbai Ranji players Ajinkya Rahane, Abhishek Nair, Maharashtra's Yogesh Takawale, Baroda's Rajesh Pawar, Dhawal Kulkarni and Aniket Chavan said they would benefit immensely from the tournament.

Thornely grabs his chance in IPL for Mumbai Indians THE chance to test himself against the world's best cricketers was the reason NSW all-rounder Dominic Thornely signed on to the Indian Premier League this week - for just $25,000. More... Thornely grabs his chance in India By Christian Nicolussi April 11, 2008 THE chance to test himself against the world's best cricketers was the reason NSW all-rounder Dominic Thornely signed on to the Indian Premier League this week - for just $25,000. Thornely agreed to a comparatively small-change deal to play alongside Sachin Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh in the Twenty20 tournament for the Mumbai franchise. While his five-figure salary falls well short of the $1.65million paid to MS Dhoni, or the $1.47million pocketed by Aussie superstar Andrew Symonds, Thornely was simply happy to be part of the inaugural star-studded tournament. "At the end of the day I've been given the opportunity to play with and against some of the best players in the world," Thornely said. "This could be the stepping stone for me and whether I'm good enough to play international cricket. "I've played a lot of cricket for NSW and had a Test for Australia A without enjoying too much success, but this will give me another indication of how I'd measure up." Thornely was supposed to fly to India today for the IPL which starts next week. But the Albury-born 29-year-old was given permission to depart Sunday given he will be part of NSW teammate and newly-contracted Australian player Doug Bollinger's wedding this afternoon. The two cashed-up mates debated who would "shout" while enjoying a quiet drink in Wollongong. Thornely finished runner-up for the Ford Ranger Cup award behind Blues teammate Brad Haddin and enjoyed an impressive summer with an unbeaten 169 against South Australia last month in the Pura Cup. He has played with Harbhajan in English county cricket but was yet to meet Tendulkar. Thornely entered the debate about putting money before the baggy green and said "playing for Australia" would always remain a top priority. "I think for most players representing your country is the ultimate," Thornely said. "But you also can't blame the six or seven older guys who have chased the money in the Indian Cricket League. They've enjoyed outstanding careers back home and are probably entitled to collect those contracts."

mohali do have some good spinners in Chawla and Powar. I am not too sure about their pacers: Brett Lee, Sreesanth, and VRV. All of them can go for a lot of runs. The batting will be their forte with Sarwan, Jayawardene, Sangakara, and Yuvi. Most of them are stroke makers but I dont think they can tear apart the opposition as opposed to someone like Afridi or Gilchrist. For Mumbai,Loots Botsman is a crazy attacking player as well although he didnt click in the 20/20 WC along with Jayasurya and Tendulkar. Uthappa aint bad either in the 20/20 format.

Matchless glamour MUMBAI, (IANS): For sheer glamour quotient, Mumbai Indians are matchless. Their captain Sachin Tendulkar's stature is enough for Mukesh Ambani to rake in profits in the first year itself, having spent $111.9 million to buy the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 side - the costliest of the eight teams auctioned. While every team would like to be the champion side, winning just the first prize of $1.2 million might not have been the top priority of the business tycoons and Bollywood stars who have invested millions of dollars in the IPL. But for coaches, captains and players, cricket will surely come first. It is no different with the Mumbai Indians. Although money is no problem for the Mukesh Ambani's Reliance group, no businessman would like to splurge without adequate mileage from investment in return. An indication as to which way the Mumbai Indians are headed in the tournament can be had April 20 when they play Chennai
