kruiser
Ball hits the pads and deflects to the boundary. Umpire gives out wrongly and is overturned by DRS. Under current rules, no runs awarded to batting team This could happen in 25th over and the team may go on to lose by 3 runs. This loophole has been discussed on air between Gavaskar and Bhogle and multiple other times Link to comment
Asim
The thing is DRS is Only to Correct a wrong decision... Since Umpire raising the finger and giving out is a valid thing 'at that moment' so everything happening at that moment remains valid like ball goes dead and batsmen stop scoring etc even if a review is made and decision is reversed... Actually its not like we are Undoing the Umpire's Decision and every happened thing at that moment... Umpire's decision infact still remains valid but with the help of "decision review" system we are Only changing or practically speaking adding another decision... Link to comment
dial_100
This being a special situation, batsman can walk upto the umpire and request not to make decision until there is no further action possible and then give decision to ensure a fair play. The same could be communicated to fielding captain. I guess umpire will oblige and so will fielding captain. I am not aware of any rule for how long ump can take to make decision. Link to comment
