Symmo a Neanderthal Symmo a Neanderthal, says Aussie media 5 Mar 2008, 1452 hrs IST,Vikas Roy,INDIATIMES NEWS NETWORK Print Save EMail Write to Editor Symonds: A Neanderthal man? (Agencies) In a season where the Australia cricket team's failure to dominate the Test series or the Tri-series has boiled over into frustration and unsavoury incidents on and off the pitch, the local media's readiness to defend its cricketers has been as striking as it has been distasteful. Various columnists have pitched in with biased articles to try and shape public opinion against the Indian team and keep it under pressure. Despite that, Team India nearly levelled the Test series and on Tuesday, won the annual Tri-series for the first time against all odds. Andrew Symonds was in the spotlight once again even though no 'racist' taunts and abuses were exchanged this time around despite his being outfoxed by Harbhajan Singh twice in three days. The muscular all-rounder, who trained pre-season with a rugby league team, managed to flatten a streaker who ran onto the ground with a strong shoulder-charge. Like they have done most of this season, most Australian columnists rushed to Symonds' support with some even suggesting that the skinny streaker posed a physical threat to the all-rounder. Amid all the din Garth Montgomery, the Daily Telegraph's blog editor, managed to take an objective view of the incident. Montgomery wondered why Symonds who "was in no danger"...shouldn't be on assault charges" for flattening the streaker. He begins his blog by asking: "... can he (Symonds) really defend the charge that he's a thug?" The journalist goes on to say: "The Indians are on to something with their Symonds obsession... (they) know that we have a cricketer so neanderthal that he should sleep in a cage." In comments that should have all of Australia sitting up, Montgomery adds: "Symonds is so prized in India that they want to take his freak show on the road and have paid a record amount for him to perform at the IPL. Show him a nude man and watch him go off." :hysterical: Most Indians have come to regard Symonds as a "raging bull" and a "loose cannon" which go off any time and any place. For those driven to despair by his double standards, constant provocation as well as his gratuitous verbal and physical violence, it comes as little surprise that even some Australians have now began to wonder why Symonds always has a bee under his bonnet. Montgomery concludes his blog by saying the high-strung Symonds should "relax more". And as cricket crazy India goes overboard celebrating Tuesday's success, this is advice that all of us would do well to embrace. --- Im loving this.. :yay::yay: hes been bought by IPL (monkey charmer) to stage a steet show in India to make money.. something like this. 1828493477_af1043858b_o.jpg
