Zap_Brannigan
Lets see..... 1st final: Sachin makes 50% of the team runs. Sharma makes 25%. The rest of the specialist players fail. 2nd final: Sachin makes 91. The next highest is 38. Worse, after he gets out, we make 53 runs in the last 64 balls with 6 wickets in hand. We won that by 9 runs. Oh hell yeah! Link to comment

Anakin
finey, I agree. Sachin is not the backbone of the Indian side. In fact, could we say this Indian side has no backbone?:haha::haha::haha::haha: Link to comment
fineleg
finey, I agree. Sachin is not the backbone of the Indian side. In fact, could we say this Indian side has no backbone? dupe id, what u can say is, The Indian side has no single player as the backbone. Link to comment
udaydewan
Team Spirit is the back bone of this Indian Team. Link to comment
yoda
RD has been and still is the backbone of our test side. In ODIs, yes, it has been and still is Sachin. Link to comment
THX_1138
not quite... the team is not longer a 'batting' side. i.e. a side that was dependent upon its batting to triumph over the opposition. with the rise of players such as yuvraj, sehwag, dhoni etc, it is difficult to pin point a single batsman who acts like the pivot for the team. this is a rather pleasant departure as it improves our chances of winning, as we are no longer vunerable once tendulkar is dimissed. mhr123
In this series every1 contributed, it was GG/MSD in the earlier part of the series, then RS, some glimpse of Yuvi were there in middle of the series and in the finals mantle was take by SRT... so its hard to pin point some one. For a change we are seeing a total team contribution after the sad world cup debacle. Link to comment
Desi Cartman
he is still an important member but remember India reached finals because of I Sharma , R Sharma , Dhoni and Gambhir as well. In the finals P Kumar was awesome as well .. so yes SRT is still an important player and will always be but I dont think he is the backbone Link to comment
living
I think SRT and MSD are equally important. Both of them seem to inspire the rest of the team. Link to comment
DomainK
You ask this poll in ICF - the land of tendulkar :hysterical: Put it in some neutral cricket site (there isn't such one probably) :D There is one which is frequented by a almost equal proportion of Indians, English, Pakistanis and Australians. Also there are West Indians, New Zea landers, and South Africans. I think its the most neutral I have ever seen: www.world-a-team.com Link to comment

Bumper
SRT is a very important contributor, but no way the backbone of this side. SRT was a key factor in the finals, but we got there pretty much without any major contributions from him. Against the world champs, we need more than one player firing at the same time and fortunately it happened. I'd say one of Dhoni or Yuvraj is the backbone of this ODI side. In recent times, we've never done well in ODIs when both of them have failed. Link to comment

Bumper
I also missed the must win game against SL where SRT destroyed their bowling and the sole victory against OZs where he scored the highest runs. If you are talking ODIs, in the last couple of years, Dhoni & Yuvraj have been they key to our fortunes. SRT has made some important contributions, but when Dhoni & Yuvi have failed, we've failed more often than not. Link to comment
Predator_05
The backbone of the side is the bowling attack. Tendulkar is more like the c0ck and balls of this team. Link to comment

maaki
Great synopsis.. Didn't the 2nd final look like the familiar indian batting story.. Sachin scored bulk of the runs.. the moment he gets out..the rest of team crumbles..
