Throwback: India Vs England 1992 World cup

It's been 28 years since that interesting tournament opener for India against England.

Some memories / gripes:

- Sachin was in prime form, after spending a few months in Australia prior to that

- Mr. Tracer Bullet took the anchor role too seriously and put that rather strong middle order of Sachin-Kambli-Amre-Kapil under major RRR pressure

- Prabhakar didn't sacrifice his wicket to a much accomplished Pravin Amre 

- Subroto Banerjee was a pleasant surprise with the bat; he gave us a lot of hope on that Saturday! He had an off-day with the ball though.

 

What were your gripes, what-ifs & memories from that game/weekend?

Was very excited about 1992WC and the tri series in Aus, along with the test series

 

The team under performed big time despite playing so much cricket prior to the WC in Aus (I don’t recall any other Ind team getting such an exposure before a WC in SENA)

Indeed. It was a tense Friday/Saturday, as the build-up for the game/tournament began. 

Agree about the amount of prep time, our team got back then. Besides, the team was on the upswing, as the tri-series drew to a close. We could have won the second final, if a few little things had gone our way. 

The other reason for the anticipation was also about the new coloured clothing and the design. I don't recall seeing the pic with all the teams next to Sydney Opera house prior to the world cup. Seeing Aus & NZ kits first and then our kits later was quite a buzz. That being said, our team colour until then - sky blue - was the best!
