Mr. Wicket Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Hard to choose for me from about three hours of sheer metal heaven one night in Tinley Park in Illinois. Put up with a few hours of shyte and a few good bands here or there, then got to see Slayer live. Amazing. Judas Priest then went out and TOPPED them, with Rob Halford screeching his lungs out at some 50+ years old. And then the night ended with an hour of Black Sabbath, fronted by the Prince of Darkness himself. Ozzy. Unfkingbelievable. Man seemed to be on about five or six drugs at once, stoned and drunk and still blowing us away from start to finish.

vroomfondel Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Salil, what tour was this -- Slayer,JP, sabbath in one night sounds like eardrum shattering bliss. as for mine: -dave gilmour "on an island" tour in LA (2006?). almost made me cry -radiohead at greek (berkeley, 2006) - bhimsen in nehru park, delhi (1998?) - uday bhawalkar, at a house concert in LA (2006ish) --> there are a whole bunch of house concerts that have blown my mind (including prabha aatre, padma talwalkar etc.) - soulive at monterey jazz fest (2004?) I will be at Lollapalooza 2008 (Chicago), which promises to rock. hard. Radiohead, Rage against the machine, Nine Inch Nails, Flogging molly etc. For those in the bay area, please check tickets for Outside lands 2008. It's kind of expensive, but you get: Radiohead, Manu Chao, Primus! over 3 days. People I would give my middle nut to see, but never will (alas): 1) Bismillah Khan, Nikhil Banerjee, the original Pink Floyd (w/ Barrett) 2) Jeff Buckley in a NY Dive bar, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden 3) Ironmaiden and Queen in Wembley stadium

Spring 2003: Finch at the Engine Room (small rock cafe in downtown houston with a bloody awesome atmosphere!). Honorable mention: Fall 2002: Judas Priest And yes i too would readily impart with my right testicle to see Alice in Chains or Ironmaiden in the Wembley Stadium. Love Soundgarden but i dont quite know what to expect from their live performances. Anyone here ever seen Pearl Jam or Nirvana live?

Darkest Hour (who kicked some serious ass at that show as well) and gods of Swedish death metal, At the Gates, at the House of Blues. The fact that At the Gates is performing should be enough to rob someone's bank account and make sure you get tickets. (Sadly I'll be out of the area for that performance, but am trying to see if I can catch one of their other tour performances. I've seen half the group play at a Haunted concert some years ago, and it was unbelievable as well - not quite on Slayer/JP/Sabbath level of holiness, but still incredibly awesome.)

For the best live performance, it has to be a toss up between Cult of Luna and a performance with Mike Patton + Christiaan Fennesz. Mono's live show was pretty awesome too.

f.b.m Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I was actually very underwhelmed by that album when I first listened to it. Failed to grow too. Then again, I was a massive fan of Cryptopsy, Suffocation, etc, back then. Times have changed.

If you ARE a fan of it, then it's probably the best album there, even better than The Jester Race. If you're more into the likes of Cryptopsy and DEP (which I'm not a big fan of) or some of the really hardcore/death stuff these days, then I'd expect you to disagree.

Was into cryptopsy, death, napalm death etc but was seriously underwhelmed by At the Gates, Morbid Angel, Hate Eternal, and that lot. Then again, I wasnt around when these albums were released so maybe I didnt get whatever "breakthroughs" they made.

Of all the groups you mentioned, I've listened to bits of most of them and not been a fan of any bar ATG, who I hold in very high regard. I don't enjoy that much Swedish metal - just have a bunch of In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Haunted, At the Gates and maybe bits of one or two others. [Right now listening to The Clash for a slight change. Brilliant stuff, as ever.]

They used to be the best metal band I heard in Inda. They were called Millenium or something. Have been to a Asha Bhonsle concert 5 yrs back. The old lady can still croon.
