IPL to not sever ties with Vivo as BCCI retains all sponsors including Chinese companies after GC meeting.  Photo Credit: BCCL  IPL's Chinese sponsorship became a contentious issue in the wake of clashes between Indian and Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh in June. However, BCCI has decided to continue with the sponsors keeping the sponsorship agreement in mind. A Governing Council member confirmed that the board decided to retain the sponsors as it is difficult to find new sponsors during these testing times.  "All I can say is that all our sponsors are with us. Hopefully, you can read between the lines," a Governing Council member was quoted as saying by PTI.  Vivo had signed a five-year deal with the BCCI as the major sponsor of the league worth Rs 2,199 crores in 2017. BCCI's contracts with Vivo and other Chinese brands run into thousands of crores. BCCI's decision comes amidst pressure from all corners over boycott of Chinese ties after the Galwan Valley clash where 20 Indian soldiers were martyred.  Some other important decisions were also made in the IPL Governing Council meeting on Sunday. The new season of the IPL will get underway from September 19, as reported previously. The final of the tournament will be played on November 10. The matches will be played at three venues in the UAE - Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.  COVID-19 replacements will be allowed to all teams due to the prevailing circumstances and the maximum squad strength has been reduced to 24 each for all eight teams. The Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs)  for the upcoming season is being prepared and will be issued soon to all the franchises.
