> Bramhastra or no Bramhastra, we aint gonna win the third test. The gap between the two teams is too wide to bridge in a gap of few days. sorry do not agree. We were beaten fair and square in Melbourne and I am sure you had similar thoughts. but we came back stronger. Kanpur is lucky ground for India. In one series against Saffies it was way back when we won Ahmedbad test defending 180 odd. We lost next test badly in Kolkatta and came back really strong in Kanpur to win the series. My only worry is Kumble. If he is fully fit you will see him run thru them in atleast one of the innings.

yup ' date=' probably vengsarkar did a package deal with Munaf , UV , [b']Dinesh Karthik and jaffer
 dinesh kartik is in the team only as a reserve wicket-keeper & is a better batsman for test-cricket than dhoni & yuvraj only players who seem to over benefit r jaffer, munaf, powar & yuvraj(in tests). picking jaffer & munaf ahead of gambhir & pravin kumar is just regionalism & there is a quota-system in bcci. the bcci quota-system of selecting players is worser than even sa & zim

the selectors showing extreme bias in picking players from mumbai & gujarat irrespective of how cr@p they might be and not picking up players from other states irrespective of how great they might be jaffer ahead of gambhir who was in smashing form in ranji trophy & also hit 2 odi 100s in aus. jaffer was struggling badly in the 3 test matches he played in aus. jaffer picked just bcoz jaffer is from mumbai munaf ahead of pravin kumar who took 10 wickets in 4 odis in aus when munaf was being smashed all over. also, pravin kumar has the best bowling record of all indian fast bowlers in fc cricket in entire cricketing history. munaf picked just bcoz munaf is from gujarat ramesh powar ahead of ojha. ramesh powar picked just bcoz he is from mumbai
It's not a new thing. Players from stronger domestic teams always have the edge in playing for the country. There is always a bias in picking the players from Mumbai. Players like Agarkar, Powar, Munaf and Jaffer etc are the prime examples for this statement. No wonder players like Jaffer getting priority over more talented DK/GG/AC. Our selectors and their policies :finger:

true that he is the reserve keeper in away tests but I fail to understand why is he in the squad at home ? just to get paid I guess. Aussies always have a squad of 12 at home...

playing a bowling all-rounder instead of the master batsman backfired in the previous game pathan should definately be dropped, a yuvraj or kaif should be picked to fill in the shoes for sachin jaffer seriously doesn't seem 2 look good while batting since there is no other specialist opener, he will b retained sehwag jaffer dravid yuvraj\kaif saurav laxman dhoni kumble bhajji sreesanth munaf ishant, though called in squad, isn't fully fit if kumble is declared unfit, piyush chawla should b picked ahead of ramesh powar we need atleast one brilliant feilder in the playing 11(read chawla) sehwag to captain in absence of kumble

BTW ... Irfan "the bowling allrounder" Pathan was the only BATSMAN who resisted the Saffies. He was the only Not Out batsman in both innings. I think we should always play him as a batsman, he's a much better batsman than he's given credit for, especially in India, and ofcourse he's a better bowler than all those batsmen!

you are spot on that pathan is very good batter. But our problem is whenever we go with 5 specialist batsman those 5 batters feel the heat and pressure. They know they have to preserve their wicket and score runs and thats were we lose out. 5 batsman theory has not worked for india.

And add to that, Pathan is not the kind of batsman that can make huge scores occupying crease for long periods of time. He is just a bowler with an useful bat. He should be included in the team only on the basis of his bowling performance. Specialist batsmen like Yuvraj/Kaif should be selected ahead of Irfan if the team opts for a 7-4 strategy. After the pathetic batting performance in the second test, India can't afford to go with only five specialist batsmen.

Irfan is good enough to open for us' date=' he has the technique and SRK's backing too so why not?[/quote'] If Pathan goes for films, then SRK's recommendation is worthy...but for cricket, SRT's recommendation can only work and worthy.
