Indian Batting : IPL vs Tests in SENA

I am a firm believer that those batsman who do very well in IPL can never become good batsman in tests in challenging overseas conditons except for one or two great players.

 

One should not be playing the IPL if he wants to excel in SENA tests as a batsman. You cannot tune your game for IPL / T20s and then reverse it just like that as a batsman. 
Batting in SENA is about mindset, trigger movement, head position, tons of patience, playing spell by spell.. session after session etc.. Bowlers who excel in IPL can easily adapt to tests as they can correct their lengths after two spells. Batsman cant do that.  Even if they can, they might do well in one series or one or two odd test matches once in a while but the consistency wont be there. 

Forget Prithvi Shaw, would Mayank look so tentative if he was 100% focused on tests alone? I doubt that. 

Rahane being the freeloader he is, could have probably served us better if he had clarity. 

Even the likes of Saha/Ashwin might have developed better defensive game. 

 

I dont think selecting Rahul/ Rohit will work in tests. They have already been failures in SENA and It again will be a repeat of that. 

These two might have adopted better to tests if they were playing in 90s or earlier as we only had two formats then.

Pick test specialists from the domestic games like Priyank Panchal, Eswaran or some others who are not in IPL or not focused on developing their game for T20s.  Heck even ChePu continuously tries to develop his power game.
