Virat is both good and terrible simultaneously as captain. He has some qualities that are absolutely necessary to compete with the best. His fierceness even if it's manufactured, aggressiveness and in you face attitude, his passion and preference for fast bowlers are and should be well appreciated.

All that later part seems to have disappeared. Last time we truly saw it (in a genuine way and not just trying to live up to his image) was on the previous English tour where he was the top scorer. He seemed a man possessed

Exactly. If the fire isn't there, he should quit being captain. No one can handle it. Only Kane has managed to do so. But Kane is pressure free. No one expects Kiwis to win titles. Their country barely care about cricket. It's all about rugby first. 

 

India conversely is the opposite. Allocating one specific captain per format is better and the way to go forward. Odi and t20 I suppose could have the same captain as there are similarities and crossovers between the two formats.
