Bilateral bullies or poor planning?

So it's an open secret that we beat a lot of teams black & blue in bilateral series, but lose to them heavily in ICC tournaments! Now admittedly these teams don't always play their best players in bilateral LO cricket, but we usually do especially away from home.

 

What I've observed is that we usually fail in adverse conditions i.e. when the ball swings (a lot) or there's dew while defending (subpar) totals. When the conditions are generally in our favor, or neutral, we do win.

 

Now what's the solution to this? I think playing games in unfavorable conditions, or simulating certain conditions with an intra squad matchup would be nice. I'd say the intra squad game in Eng could be a template to perform in such situations.

 

This obviously doesn't replace game times against full strength Eng, Oz or NZ but hopefully will help us to plan situations where we fail consistently!

Need to get ove the superstar thing and hyping players too much.

 

We have hailed Rohit and Kohli as ATGs and GOATs but they have failed to win us any tournament post 2013.

 

We have also hyped the Rahul's, Pant's and Pandya's as next big things but to no avail. They have not shown the consistency or big match performance enough to turn things around. They have been decent players but nothing extraordinary worth the hype.

 

Bumrah has been excellent for us but he too has left a lot to desire when it comes to knockout matches.

 

Shami and Jadeja have been inconsistent throughout.

 

The first solution is to not over expect things and simply accept that it is a good team but not a truly great one.
