Vk1 Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 All the main contenders for Ash & Jadeja seem to be SLA variety.. Axar, Saurabh, Shabaz, Mulani etc.. so have we stopped producing regular spinners or has it got to do something with T20 cricket
Chakdephatte Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 (edited) It's easier to get into teams at every level if you have a secondary skill. Especially, for a lower order batsman, they hardly score consistently, but a second skill saves them. And it's easier to learn finger spin than wrist spin while fast bowling requires strength. So they prefer it. These SLA bowlers can't get into teams easily for being finger spinners (out of demand). That's why they always have some batting talent. SLA+LHB is probably the most common all-rounder type in the world. It doesn't have anything specifically to do with India. Edited September 17, 2022 by Chakdephatte

Their matchup against right handed batsmen (most batsmen are right handed). Plus the fact that they have some batting talent. You never see any team wasting a specialist bowler's spot on an sla. They are always in top 7. Edited September 17, 2022 by Chakdephatte
