Not true.. they were allowed to keep it in 1947 (at least PoK which was not as difficult as GB). I don't know if you have any source to substantiate what you say - would love to see one for knowledge's sake if you do. The problem was Nehru who didn't want to upset his dost Sheikh Abdullah and his dreams to become the first Sultan of Kashmir and his ego to act like he wanted peace more than anything else in the world. For the sake of his ego we could not secure Kashmir.

We could have exchanged our territories esp in 1971 when we had 90k Pak soldiers to bargain with. So we def allowed it.

We also allowed China to take over Tibet without a murmur and did 0 in all this time to draw up a definite border with them when we had relatively good relations with them in the 50s. All due to our misfortune with an inept Nehru in almost compete and total power over India.

lol it was part of the Great Game of the West during Russian control of Afg...  Yes we might have made a dash for it in PoK (not GB)  but encountered a hostile population.  Remember IA managed to capture Poonch by fighting for over 1.5 years...  As locals had revolted against Dogra rule & were highly hostile.

In PoK alone u got Mirpur.. (IA couldn't capture it)  Muzzafarabad the capital & then neighbouring Bhimber & Nellum valleys.

GB is a completely different universe... Zero connectivity to Gilgit & Chitral from our side...  But easily accessible to them.  Again u need to invade Pak mainland to cut supply lines.

In 1965 both sides were unable to dislodge each other in Kashmir.  India captured Haji Peer pass (Most Infiltration still occurs from there)..  But had to return it for Chammb sector in Akhnoor.

Nobody was giving India anything in 1971... Certainly not US & Russians were also not interested in continuing anything.  It was about Bangladesh & it was already a big L for US of A.

Well that's why i said due to the current agreements of not using live ammunition to avoid a full out war.. there is nothing stopping China from raining down cruise missiles at our forward posts is there?

Yep...  India has also deployed cruise & subsonic cruise missiles along LAC but you are right their missile capability is daunting compared to us.  We may have to resort to ICBMs to hit their mainland.  While they can do it with SRBMs & Medium range ones.

Since your history is so solid - please present sources. Happy to change my mind to your leaning.

Read books of various generals of that time...  You will get the idea.   Also u can find out how much Nehru & India establishment were dependent on British for the info.  British did played us a lot too..  The bastards were always two steps ahead.

Also lot of the info about the geography can be sourced from 1965 war...   However u have to dive pretty deep for that.  Sources vary.

The Sialkot offensive by IA is gold mine of military tactics.

Studying geography & logistics of the land clears a lot of doubts.

Current deployment of Pak army in PoK & GB also helps.
